With regards to heat soak... What effect would you feel and how long would it take to have a depremental effect.

If the drilled airbox brings in hot air, wont the 3" feed cool it down as the the two temprature fronts meet inside the box?

No expert but cold air + hot air = warm air!!!!!

Or a tornado. Lightning in the engine bay = more bhp?

Just had a thought you know how you can run a car on cooking oil well lard has a higher calorific value than cooking oil so if you took a giant yorkshire pudding and poked some holes in it sealed it to a hollowed out battered sausage roll with pastry and sealed that to the air intake would that work like nitrous oxide?

Just had another thought its time for lunch

READ MY THREAD REGARDING THE EBAY CAI KITS THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU BUY THEM

Just a wee update from myself, i baught one of the cheap cold air intakes from ebay and fitted it on my car i took it for a wee run but i didnt like the feel of it at all and it dint really fit properly in my engine bay.

So i took a trip to my local breakers yard and managed to get a standard airbox from a golf mk4 turbo ( as i stupidly sold my one :(), i fitted that this afternoon and what a difference much better throttle response its so much smoother aswell much better than the cai so iam glad i put it back to standard the car feels so much better.

This is just my opinion but i wouldnt touch the ebay cai pipes i just didnt like the feel of the car and the fitment wasnt that great if iam honest plus there is also the chance of them flakeing. So if you are thinking of getting a CAI pipe maybe think again i much prefer the standard airbox

what didn't you like about the way it felt? did it feel laggy ?

Yeah its hard to explain but the throttle response wasnt as sharp and smooth it would hesitate a bit. With the standard airbox on its better in the low down revs seems to pull a bit better. The only thing with the airbox is it aint as loud as the cai pipes etc, it does sound quite good with a cai pipe and uprated DV, but i went for performane gains rather than noise factor :-),

I know you can modify the airbox to get a bit more noise but think ill leave mine standard as i like how the car drives now (well apart from my cts playing up).

& the filtration will be poorer too.

I find with the drilled, De-finned and better cold air feed I get a better throttle response and a smoother engine the faster I go. Plus a very little amount of noise in the higher revs.

I actually find the opposite running my CAI. I have tried various air box mods and yes the definned and 3" feed do work better than the std airbox(again IMO) my ABD CAI just makes the car feel more responsive. I know you pay lots for it but i would prefer to do that than buy a cheaper Ebay jobbie. So I still give the CAI a thumbs up

Totally agree.. The guy can hardly compare a cheap ebay unit to a proper cai can ya? Mine is great and has made a big difference to the car...

I never said the more expensive ones weren't any good as you guys say they are very good but you would expect that after paying near 200quid for one,

i just said from my experience of running a cheap one and the standard airbox the airbox is alot smoother. I am comparing a cheaper one to the standard airbox and the airbox defenetly gets my vote i just can't justify spending 200quid on one. I would prefer to spend that on other mods :-)

This leaves me in a bit of a quandry (sp) . I want more sound but I like the reliabilty and instant torque of the standard box with the pipercross panel filter. Looks like Im saving for an exhaust then.

I made my own cost me £60 and it is as good as the £200 one I have 2 vrs and 1 of each on them and mine is as good as the expencive ones.It is a very good mod and would recomend it..

Tell more then mate, how you go about it? Would be interested to know mate if it only costs 60quid?

Sorry but you did state "So if you are thinking of getting a CAI pipe maybe think again i much prefer the standard airbox"

Which is generalistic about CAI's?

Anyway totally agree that there are other tuning parts to spend that money on.

I am glad I only paid £100 for mine  , they come up quite often on ebay(look under Seat,VW, Audi) as they are the same.

I had 2 up to recently as bought another one for £80. A K&N reclean makes them look like new.

Sorry i meant the cheap ones. The one i baught was 30quid and i didnt really like it on the car it didnt really fit properly aswell.

I do like the noise they make espcially with a uprated DV but i think ill keep mine standard(for now :-) anyway) and save for a jetex exhaust system :-)

Those Jetez systems get good reveiws. I am soon to be replacing my Blueflame with either Jetez or Piper or perhaps custom if a garage does a good price.

What condition is your blueflame exhaus bowders? I would be interested in buying it if you were planing on selling it.
