Custom Induction kit... on!

Featured Replies

Well i would put the standard air box on but i stupidly sold it to a mate :-(, so i have ordered a cold air intake pipe off ebay i am going to try incorporate my pipercross fillter to my new cai pipe ill hopefully be able to set in down in behind the bumper, ill post pics up if i manage something. Another quick point i have noticed that sometimes when i give it the beans it feels like my car is holding back ever so slightly could this have something to do with running a pipercross induction kit? I always wait untill the gauge is at 90c before i give it some could heat soak have something to do with it holding bac? Or am i talking complete *******s

Yes it could be heatsoak, could also be a vac leak or d/v leaking....

Well its different I'll give you that, just not too sure about the amazing and brilliant bit though !!!

But having said that....I do genuinely admire your enthusiasm

In comparison, I've spent a small fortune on tuning cars both in the past and to some degree the one I own now, but dont recall ever being so pleased as you are with the outcome. :(

Bill.

Don't think it would be the dv replaced that not to long ago with a compbrake one, ill have a check on the pipes but checked not so long ago they all seemed ok ill have another check though,

I was trying to emulate the pipercross style of filter (which is essentially the same) but for a fraction of the price.

I realise now the error of my ways, these engines do warm up v quickly, and I will be reverting back to standard until I can get hold of a decent intake pipe & filter.

I have had a HKS filter in the past and the eBay item looks the same to me, but I'm no expert.

As I cannot find an APD item anywhere, what is the best CAI to go for, but which also won't cost me an 1/8th of my cars value?

On the subject of CAI, I noticed a few people have the ebay £40 one fitted. Does anyone have a sound clip?

I ordered the 40quid 1 off ebay last night hopefully get it fitted up at the weekend, ill post up some pics and possibly a sound clip

Oh now I know you have the comp brake one it may be the spring inside may be to soft ,you should have a few different springs change to the next one up from what is in it???? I had to do mine and now all is okay

BACK TO STANDARD! Panic over.

So please stop whining about heat soak and blown engines

This was a TEST kit, results are: loud noise, lower mpg, therefore worse performance. But it did at least sound good.

CAI next, which one is best? Anyone? Can't find an APD one.

Wow what a attitude towards people that are trying to help you???? you would have been the one wining when you blew your engine

yup i have the compbrake one i have had the car remapped aswell so maybe the spring is to soft, but me being a **** i chucked away the other spring but from what i can remember the spring fitted in the compbrake was the stiffest one. Does anyone happen to have a spare yellow spring??? Also i have been told that the forge spring will fit in the compbrake valve if someone can back me up on this before i order one that would be great, i see forge sell individual springs so for the sake of a few quid i may aswell change it.

Yeah ill post pics at the weekend iam hoping to incorporate my pipercross fillter to the cai pipe in behind my bumper if all goes to plan :-)

It's not attitude and maybe it reads that way but I didn't intend it to. I'm sick of people taking the ****. I appreciate all the constructive points I am genuinely grateful.

Are we not doing drilled airboxes anymore? lol.

I followed Bowders1 thread on definning and dillng the standard airbox then attaching a 3" cold airfeed from the bottom of the bumper, behind the solid grille, sounds good and works well. I have seen a dramatic improvement over standard, especially at high speeds.

As regards to this setup... My friend did this with a K&N on his clio. He was lucky enough and sold it before he expericed the problems but because he sold the car to a friend we where kept updated with the problems.

It took out the head gasket,

effected the sparkplugs,

packed up one of the cylinders,

took out the water pump and a few other things.

You may say how on earth can some hot air do that but all it had todo was take out one item and because things are all linked, in this case bits fell like dominos.

Sorry for any poor spelling, on the Girlfriends laptop and the keyboard wants to work only part of the time.

APD = ABD lol

as for personal preference and money wasnt an issue i would go abd all day long as it is a good kit. but if you want to mod on a budget then a simple 3 inch cold air feed to standard box will be fine.

My link

Sorry to hijack the post a wee bit, but could someone tell me if one of these forge springs is ok to fit in my compbrake DV? Compbrake don't seem to sell single springs i have tryed emailing them but i have haven't had a reply.

cheers

If it works good why not keep it.

I experiemented with the airbox mod, not so everyone would necessarily follow it but to give my experience. I defined it, did a few holes under the airbox(not engine side) for more noise than performance, and fitted the 3" cold piping(which was the main benefit).

So in summary to get the best from airbox for performance the 3" piping is the top choice.

I liked my set up and it worked well.

Last week i refitted the ABD CAI as the weather is improving (no rivers around the roads in my area now  ) so making the best of it for a while.

What colour of spring is best to go for? My car has the stage 1 shark remap, i can't remember what psi they run at

Cheers

paul yellow buddy

How about we all calm down, yeah we had a little fun about it, but theres no need to keep it up any further is there.

Any more and I'll lock the thread which would be a shame as it's quite informative tbh.:)

I've run drilled modified airbox's for years on various gsi's corsa/cavalier and 2.6 vectra with no faults or problems so this don't drill your airbox BS is a load of carp!!

If you dnt wanna do it don't! Simple.

Just fit the airbox with a 3" feed to the lower bumper grille, just remember to drill the grill so it gets cold air otherwise it's defeating the object as the grilles solid plastic

so this don't drill your airbox BS is a load of carp!!

We've been here once already lol

Maybe on any other engine, but on these ones all it's gonna do is suck hot air in, which we should avoid doing

Whats the point in 3" pipe then drilling holes to let hotter air in, sounds abit daft too me.

drilling an airbox has to be the most stupid suggestion I have read.

can anyone who is promoting this nonsense explain how it is an improvement over standard, and show some proof of increased power etc.

have to agree i wouldt drill the airbox just fit a 3inch intake

So no other engines but these run hot?

The amount of warm air it that does get in will be minimal I'd have thought, maybe it's just a noise thing :giggle:

As said if you don't want to drill then don't, I suppose it's a personal preference for me and I find mine runs better than with my old CAI!

And as for linking holes in the airbox to causing problems I've never come across any in 10+ of running airboxes this way

Each to there own I suppose, this site would be a very boring place if everyones car was the same :p
