TON UP!

I know you VRS owners will shmirk :wonder:,however I took my Fabia cr tdi 105bhp elegance over the ton today :giggle:,she's done 350 miles so I have been told just to open the taps once in a while B),engine temp 106 only took her up there for a few minutes, performance from 3rd gear is **** off a shovel :smirk:,eccelleration is seemless smooth at 100mph she only was ticking over at 2500 rpm,red line at 5000 engine temp comes down very quickly under 100c within a few minutes of coming down to 60mph,has anyone taken this engine to the max and what mph is possible, must be in access of the speed on the literature? I am very happy with the engine chuffed to bits to be honest, you guy's n dolls with the VRS'S must feel like the cats that got the cream B) VERY HAPPY DRIVERS

Hi Seb, very potent aren't they! It will certainly have done it good too, easy performance eh.

I don't know if you have tried it in your 1.4TDI yet...but I had cause to take mine to 100+ last year when a motorway incident was unfolding behind me. It involved the Police who were chasing a very very naughty person indeed. The very naughty person was bashing into other people in a bid to escape justice but the boys in blue were on him (and his accomplice!). Anyhoo, the scene. Cruising lazily along on the M25 at a steady 70, right hand lane overtaking slower moving traffic. Always checking the rear view, spot some very odd things happening behind me, debris coming off cars (later turned out to be mostly DVD players being ejected from the passenger window). Suddenly realised the naughty men were closing fast and were not taking prisoners, so dumped right foot on the gas and she literally jumped in fifth gear to 100+ without any difficulty, fuss or drama. Mines the estate so she has a top speed of 109mph according to the book, slightly faster than the hatch (this is down to the slightly better aerodynamics, less drag thing). On private grounds, I've had an indicated 115mph (nearer 108mph in reality I would imagine). And...she was still accelerating! Oh...I was a witness for the Police and the very naughty men were put away for 18months and 3 years respectively. It turned out they were very very very naughty indeed! :o

Is 106 degrees not a little bit too hot for a still tight new engine that's only doing around 100mph??

don't think so on tickover its 98 I think, comes down very quickly though withi minutes of taking it easy around 60-70mph,I have been told not to take it over 70 but heyho the red mist came down,

NOT long enough as they were using a vehicle as a weapon!!,seriously quick once its in 3rd and beyond I agree the 1.4tdi is a hell of an engine considering its size mines only got 70 wee ponies but they dont half pull,I have taken the 3pot up to 80 but no further as the road to work does not allow, however tomorrow on the A55 so taps open on the cr tdi probably B)

Yeah...if it was left to me I'd have banged em up for much longer...particularly as...gulp!!!...they both kept looking at me with vengeance in their eyes!!! :o They were both serial offenders so give us all a good rest from that sort I say. But...I had the last laugh...when they were sentenced I looked at them and smirked!!! They pointed at me...and I think they mumbled something about killing me! "not while I have a Skoda" I said! That told em! :D Anyhoo, I'm jumping on a plane to south America in about 18 months. Do they do Skoda's over there?

That not bad for 1.6 CR TDI with 350 miles on the clock nice one

I remember the old astramax diesel van that would do 140......

The Greenline is faster than my nerves. Still pulling like a train after 3 figures. 4th pulls the best up to about 90 and in 5th it just keeps going. Access to a very long runway is a bonus. Still, those T rated tyres are going round awfully fast. Speed on a motorcycle doesnt bother me, in a car my knuckles go white on the steering wheel. A VRS would be wasted on me :S

Chuffed to bits

The oil temp in the CR's gets rather high at motorway speeds. My 2.0 CR 140 is usually always above 100c when pushing on. 106 - 8 is about the highest ive seen it but it gets that hot all the time.

Doing 100mph with 350 miles on the clock is no problem as like you say it is only 2,500 rpm. Your main problem at that speed is the police.

Havent taken mine beyond the "ton" as more concerned about the fuel consumption and the boys in their Volvos!! However this engine seems to have tons of poke, more so than the 1.9TDi PD. Accleration is handy for getting out of a fix!

Hi never take (hardly)my vehicles above national speed limits, nowever car coming in from slip road with no regards for vehicles all ready on dual carrageway so had to put little beans on!

I part exed my superb 2 1.9tdi and this fabia is way quicker

thats why I ordered the 105 rather than the 90. Same amount of power as my old Octavia in a smaller lighter car!! Goes like a rocket for only £180 (before VAT deduction) extra!! Mind you, the Superb 2 is a big heavy beast!! :giggle:

Yep the 105 pulls more than a hooker when the fleet is in :)

I haven't felt so much confidence when overtaking since I gave up motorcycling.

Would be quicker as its much much lighter. Is interesting reading the comments on the 1.6 being so rapid, particularly in comparision to the old PD engines. I've banged on about it before in other posts but I have a 2.0 CR 140 Golf and in truth i'm not overly impressed with the performance. It's very quiet and it's certainly no slouch (once off the mark and up to speed), but they are nothing like as urgent off the mark as the equivalent PD's.

I imagine the 1.6 CR's mid range, given the lack of weight it has to throw around is very decent but it still isnt as fast as a TSi 105. I know the CR is bought largely on its ability to offer good performance with very decent MPG (a very good compromise car) but the 1.2 TSi is probably still more fun to drive, being quite heavily turbo charged and also having more revs to play with.

For a long time I prefered diesels over the equvalent size petrols (as they were on the whole much better) but since VW have launched these little TSi units my whole perception has changed. If I wasnt forced to have a diesel, I would have probably out of choice gone for a 125 or 160ps Golf TSi and put up with the higher tax and MPG purely for the extra enjoyment i'd get from driving it. Certainly those people with Fabia's who dont do much in the way of annual mileage I really dont know why you'd chose a CR over a TSi? You've really got to love diesel to make that choice.

1.4 TSi ftw ;)

My Greenline 1.4TDi got the full treatment out on the Autobahn in September on a London -> Berlin run and the high ratio gearbox really came in to its own on the Autobahn across Germany, I think the speedo does over read, but kind of a feel good seeing it easily rise to 120mph and maintain speeds of 100+ . The GPS recorded 185kph, which is 115mph so it really performed well for a 1.4 diesel. What was interesting the rpm, at maximum speed it was turning at 3400rpm, well away from the red line. The overall London->Berlin->London run returned 57mpg with a heavy foot and loaded with luggage. Acceleration was brisk all the way up the 120mph indicated then the electronics basically say, thats your lot. The small wheels didn't feel like they were going to give any less grip at those speeds, and despite the hype you hear the road surfaces on the Autobahn are no better than those of the British motorways. I have noticed a distinct difference though now the car is on Michelins rather than the stock Dunlops in the overall smoothness and grip and handling in normal everyday driving.

The question begs, how fast could a Greenline go if the electronics didnt stop it ?

I could be wrong but somehow I doubt very much the greenline is fitted with an electronic speed limiter. More likely to be limited by its lack of power :D
