abs.. grrr

Featured Replies

hi all,

seems to be one thing after another with my octy 1.9tdi :( still feeling chuffed about stripping and rebuilding my turbo and the fact it now goes like a rocket :D to notice today that the abs light comes on :'( tried resetting the ignition a few times.. but still comes on  so i scanned car- fault code 01276- abs hydraulic pump intermittent signal outside tolerance :S which im guessing means im gonna be buying a second hand pump fairly soon :(

first question- do i have to get another pump with the same code? (mines 1J0 214 617 E)- there are loads on ebay but all different codes???

second question- when i come to replace it, i heard someone mention that i need vag com to bleed the brakes?? is there a special procedure for this?

any help/ ideas would be greatly appreciated with this..

its been one thing after another with the car, bought it a month or so ago,l so far spent 2 weeks sorting central locking issues/water leaks out, replaced knackered n/s/f window regulator/ removed/stripped and cleaned turbo/ blanked off egr/ elephant modded/ resoldered regulator on cluster/arb bushes and links/ full service.. does it ever end?????? :S :S :'(

Dont know about part number but i can say no it never ends, Ive had my vrs 8 month and i still keep finding bits,

Replaced my breather pipes last week after one decided to split, but i find it a good excuse to mod it

I came across something similar on an Audi A3. The cure was very simple, cheap and quick. It was a dirty 30 Amp fuse in the battery fusebox, the fuse wasn't blown but its contacts were a little eroded, a new fuse and a clean of where it plugs in has so far sorted it. The car belongs to someone who works for a company next door, so I would soon know if its been playing up again.

cheers ;) - im gonna definatly check that one out- sounds promising- as the battery fusebox got a good soaking when i was stripping the turbo off (in the rain) heres hoping

Good luck, post back to let us know how you got on.

If it is faukty and you replace it, you do need to bleed it with vagcom. Don't overlook this, as your abs may not work properly, or you might damage your new pump. :o

my vote is also for the battery mounted fusebox, I have seen a couple similar

top marks!!!- cheers- i am chuffed- went out removed all three fuses last night, 1 was pretty corroded- replaced that 1, cleaned the other two with emery cloth.. give fuseholder a soaking in wd40 and refitted fuses.. drove 2miles this morning.. no abs light :):D very happy with that! you have just saved me a shedfull of hassle/grief/expence- many/many thanks

I love this forum when things like this happen. I was similarly saved when I thought I'd blown my convenience unit. All my problems were a tiny fuse.

Excellent news. I would imagine that you wouldn't have been too happy to find such a simple cure after replacing the ABS unit.
