Purely guessing I would say that the options you chose (or didn't choose morelike) has the most to do with the short lead time you've been lucky enough to get.

Surely if the "luck of the draw" is indeed a factor in ordering from Skoda, then they must be in a pretty chaotic state.

More likely to do with "Just In Time" manufacturing as VAG seem to work on a per quarter system they must order in all the parts they need to make the cars they have allocated (or plan to make) for a particular quarter. If the extras you choose fit with the parts they are going to get you win, if not you loose and have to wait until next quarter. Compared to Toyota's monthly quota system this does seem to create long wait times.
