How much to save for worst case scenario?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm doing the sensible thing (for the first time in my life!) and trying to put together a savings account as a kind of 'insurance' policy for my Fabia. If anything unexpected goes wrong, I can dip into that account to get it fixed. And if I don't need to use it, then it can go towards her replacement in a few years time!

What's the costliest unexpected repair you can think of? Turbo going? Clutch + DMF? What's the likely cost?

Any thoughts welcomed on how much you think I should stash away for a rainy Skoda day :D.

Turbo exploding into the engine, so engine rebuild and new Turbo?

If you stop driving as soon as it goes you'd be very, very unlucky to **** the engine so just the turbo and labour realistically.

LOL obviously never seen a turbo blow on the inlet side then have you. the engine continues to rev on its own oil. only way to stop it is usually put it in gear and stall it with foot on brake hard. very very rare though i have seen it happen. but by the time you realize whats going on its to late.

I'd set aside 2k

Should be enough to repair quite extensive crash damage,

blown turbo and labour or shagged flywheel and clutch plus labour.

Those are the BIG jobs that may come up IMO

Worst case, your words, hmmm!!

What springs to mind would be, Turbo failure destroying engine, Catalytic front exhaust down-pipe, car stolen, arson, car washed in brake fluid and bomb attack.

Wife or partner drove off with new boyfriend, making a insurance claim only to find insurance company gone bankrupt.

I think that should be the biggest things out-the-way.emoticon-0124-worried.gif

Leave plenty aside for replacement car.

For he past few years I have been with Warranty Direct, I pay about £350 a year just for the peace of mind, this includes the turbo as well.

Budget for a set of injectors (£670 a pop)
