pick up load capacity-with lowering springs?

Featured Replies

How much is the load capacity of a standard pick up? I have lowered mine using the ebay springs. The seller said the capacity would be reduced but didnt say how much by. Anyone any ideas how much is a safe limit to carry without breaking anything?

if you want to carry anything don't lower it, simple! mine bottoms out with anything more than a couple of engines in the back

Standard max rear axle load for a pickup (1.3/1.6/1.9) according to the 1998 Felly handbook is 900 kilos.

Were those the spring for about £100? How much ride and height difference do they make?

So a lowered truck with a couple of engines just about works? I was worrying about breaking springs and the like. I want to pick up some paving slabs, I shall take it easy and make a couple of trips. I couldnt possibly swap practicality at the expense of my lowness! (My truck)

They were the 100 quidish ones off of ebay. Aint measured drop but is probably 40mm ish. Ride is rather harder now, the missus hates going out in the truck now unless shes driving, we live out in the sticks so have heaps of country lanes, very bumpy! I still have the original springs, could probably put them back on in a moring if I wanted. I wouldnt dream of it!

Make the ride harder? Sheesh, mine's hard enough as it is! I get to feel every lump and bump on the M25 already(especially the strips before Clackets that some arse has put in!)

I am running the alloys with 50 profile tyres (as in the top pic) at the mo. The 65 profiles on the black rims did make a considerable difference to ride, I only swapped the wheels cos one of the 65s got a flat and I've not quite been arsed to get it fixed yet! You wouldnt recommend either wheel/tyre combo to the queens chauffer tho!

i did some research into springs, and the ones i highlighted to be the best ones were the standard rear springs from an audi a8 4.2 v8. they are almost identical to the pickup springs except they are about 40mm shorter, they have much thicker spring wire used so the load carrying capacity should be higher
