Uneven running under acceleration

Featured Replies

A bit of advice please guys...

This is an 06 2.0 140PS DSG estate with 43k on the clock and regularly serviced.

Over the last 2 or 3 months I've noticed that if you put your foot down to pass something, when the engine speed gets to around 3 - 3.5k then it gets very uneven and looses power. Back off and it's fine again. It feels exactly like misfiring on a petrol engine.

I thought it was just a full throttle problem but on a long motorway journey yesterday I found that just a very gentle acceleration at, say, 60 to 70 could produce a few hiccups too.

A bit vague, I know, but any thoughts??

Hi Steve,

I had a similar issue shortly after I got my 170PD Vrs Octavia (38k with "FSH") It felt like the traction control was cutting in under hard acceleration in 3rd or 4th but even on dry roads...

It was sorted by replacing the fuel filter. A local independent mechanic I now use told me that dealers dont always replace fuel filters at a service if the vehicle is on a variable servicing plan. Could be worth a try before resorting to more expensive diagnosis.

Hope you get it fixed either way.

Could it be the EGR valve or the MAF?

Or an issue with the injector loom?

Any whistle type noises when the turbo is on boost indicating a leak?

Get it scanned with VCDS before throwing parts at it, but a new fuel filter, air filter and a dose of Redex would be my first steps.

Thanks for all the ideas folks.

had that problem over a year ago. got fixed by cleaning the EGR valve and a new diesel filter.

now its come back and its worse than it was last year. it really makes some bad hickups with full throttle.

i temporarily cured it with a long drive with high rpm's and bell-add in the tank. and it did work about a week. Then i filled the tank up, without bell-add and it came back again 2 day's later. havent checked my diesel-filter yet, so cant say if its the same fault again.
