Sat-Nav as factory option

Featured Replies

On the Skoda website next to the description for the Sat-Nav option on the Octy it reads:

Columbus' satellite navigation system with Maxi-dot trip computer. Features include: Control via a 6.5" TFT touch colour high-resolution display 30GB hard disc, with 10GB reserved for navigation data and 20GB for music in MP3 or WMA format TMC (traffic message channel)

Does this mean that if you order the Sat-Nav system you also get the Maxi-Dot trip computer too?

So if you wanted both you would only need order the Sat-Nav system as this "includes" Maxi-Dot?

Ta

That is correct - The dealer wouldn't say anything though if you ordered them both....same with the DSG...you get maxidot as standard. I dread to think how many people have paid for maxidot when they didn't need to.

Thanks for that - you're right, I'm considering adding a Sat-Nav at factory and there is no mention of me now not needing to pay the extra £110 for the Maxi-Dot I'd already specified :)

What's worse, my salesman seems to think that with the Columbus the disk is in the machine all the time and so wants me to buy the 6 disc autochanger for £230 too :)

lol nope! my software disc is in my desk drawer upstairs yet i still have the whole of Europe on the Nav.....thats why there is 10GB reserved for navigation :wonder:

Happened to me almost, it's only being a regular reader here that gave me the information I needed to challenge my dealer. To be fair, I honestly don't think they were trying it on, just they were as badly informed as everyone else! I got a cheque for the Maxidot cost back in the post.

Oh, hello by the way

How much are you paying for the Nav? You could order maxidot and but the nav separately. Really easy to fit. You'd also need a new surround but again that's easy to get your hands on

Yup - very aware of that.

However I'm not too happy with where the majority of these "second hand" Columbus' come from.

I like many others are not convinced that the majority of them come from legitimate sources.

Now this doesn't bother most - if you're going to download MP3's, warez your software etc then buying a Columbus, no questions asked isn't really an issue.

I can't find anyone selling a second hand Columbus willing to go into too much detail on where the unit came from.

So for that reason mainly and the fact that I'd get a 3yr warranty on the unit I'm probably going to get it as a factory fit option.

That's interesting 'cos you also get maxidot with MFSW. I didn't get 2 with DSG and MFSW - did you get 2 with Columbus and DSG? :giggle:

Seriously though! I didn't spec my car - bought ready built from showroom display so I didn't get an itemised invoice - just a single figure that I checked on the configurator. If maxidot is included as standard with 2 options is there any reduction in price?

Well i have DSG, Bluetooth, MFSW and Columbus....I fitted the Columbus after though as i refused to pay £1.6k for it.

That is a crazy price! Adding DSG only(!) cost £1.2k.

I will stick with my £100 TomTom One especially as I can transfer it to the hire cars I get for business use.

I have an MFD in my Bora and i tried for a few months with the TT One but couldn't be doing with the faffing around of fixing it and whenever i came to use it the battery was flat so you couldn't turn it on for about 5 min whilst it was on charge. I also really missed not having a map there in front of me all the time! I know it sounds weird but it is always good if you are stuck somewhere and want to make a quick shortcut and you can just glance at the map and find another route!

Also i got mine for £400 off a fellow member on here who sold his Skoda so couldn't resist! Although £35 for a new fascia was a bit steep!
