Multi-storey carpark warning

Featured Replies

We visited Leeds the other day and used a city centre carpark.I noticed on walking back to the car that the aerial was only about 2 inches clear of the multistorey roof.

Without thinking I opened the rear hatch...The gap between the roof and the door bottom was less than my finger width .I now use the aerial as a height check before I open the hatch. :wonder:

Is this with the (original) long aerial or the (new) shorter one? I will be taking delivery of my SM next Tuesday, presumably with the shorter aerial, and will soon be taking it on holiday to the south of France where (i) I have a quite low garage door and (ii) usually park in a fairly low-roofed multi-storey car park at the local hypermarket. I was thinking of sticking a label on the driver's sun visor with the height of the car clearly marked, but that won't necessarily stop me pranging the tailgate if I open it too enthusiastically without sufficient headroom!

Reminded me of occurrence when we were leaving local swimming bath last Monday morning. Lady entering with a Seat Alhambra people carrier, which normally clears the roof by about 3 imches,I think she and her family must have beem away for the weekend and forgot she still had the Top Box fitted! :'(

Nip down to your local seat dealer and order aerial mast for new Ibiza, it's shorter than yeti one, £3.50 too :)

My daughter took her old camper van into the multi stoey in Worcester one night. Got under the barrier no problem at all. When she drove out at the end of the evening she took out a whole row of flourescent tubes.

When she went in there were 6 of them in it.

When she came out it was only her!!

Awwwww sweet.

And Ivor is 6 months old on Tuesday

Yetis' are invited for a piece of birthday cake :giggle:.

I'll beat that one.

When on a pub crawl in Aldershot many years ago, we left the Sherpa minibus in a multi storey, without any real difficulty, all 12 of us then hit the town.

When the driver returned for the vehicle to come & collect us he was a very very long time away.

When Wobbly Dave finally appeared back....on foot.... he explaind that we would ALL have to come with him in order to ballast the bus sufficient to get out of the Car Park.

Being well mellow much merriment ensued.

Awwwww sweet.

I'll try and match that - about 20 years ago my Dad, Local Scout Group Treasurer, received an SOS phone call from one the the scout leaders; his wife (a cub leader) had taken the groups mini-bus to an event in Newcastle and decided to pop into the Metro Centre in order to get some Maccy-Dees for the kids (those were the days); the mini-bus was a high-roof transit and she'd done a bona-fide tin-opener job on the roof at a height restriction. A number of Scout leaders were dispatched 50 miles up the road to collect a pile of amused children, and the scout leader drove a rather eventful journey back with the roof directing the cold air down at him!

I was in Normandy a couple of years ago when someone forgot about their top box and ripped it, AND the roof bars, off at a carpark near Gold Beach. They were so embarrassed they did not even stop, just kept going!!!!

Having viewed my SM this morning prior to collection next Tuesday, I can confirm it has the dinky short aerial - thank goodness!

Also in Normandy a few years ago, sitting in a cafe at Isigny-sur-Mer, watching someone try to get a horse box under a very low railway bridge. It was cut clean in half - fortunately, no horse in it at the time!
