Featured Replies

Hello

I have a fabia VRS 54 plate

my car has just started knocking and I don’t rely understand it so hoping you guys can help, it does this knocking at idle, but mainly when the car is reved the engine vibrates at its normal frequency but i can feel this knocking through the air filter cover, although that’s at the right hand side looking into the engine I can’t rely pin down where the noise comes from i have uploaded a video to you tube to see if anyone has either had or seen the problem before

Thanks hope you can help :D

Can't watch video atm. But it could be a engine mount. They rocking it with you hand to see how far it can move.

im pretty sure its not the engine mount well the engine dosent seem to have much movement but im not entirely sure !

Just watched the vis and I'm certain it isn't the mount. What's the oil level like. I had a sticky tappet for a day on mine and it sounded a bit like that.

Also how does it drive.

erm the car drives fine the turbo kicks in as usual. the oil level is fine but could maby do with an oil change the MOT is due in 4 weeks i have got another video when I looked to c if it was a engine mount

you can her it sound like a tractor and my car ?

Airbox hitting the strut brace.

no even when i hold it sill the noise still persists ?

if its a sticky tappet u think i should just give the oil a quick change tomorrow ? and if so any recommendations of which oil to buy ?

I've just watched the first video and suspect dual mass flywheel.

if you stick your foot on the clutch at idle does the noise dissapear??

if its the dmf weld it back together :)

no the noise does not dissapear when clutch is in, is toped up i dont know wat else it could be ?

sounds like a bottom end knock to me on the engine. how often do you have the oil changed?

also when my dual mass went on mine you got harsh vibrations through the clutch pedal like when your abs kicks in. maybe worth a look see if you can feel anything through it

how much did it cost to put right ? and i can feel it though the pedals some times !

you will feel it through the clutch pedal if its the dual mass. and as for cost, luckily mine was under warranty. IF it is the dual mass you would be looking at a new dual mass flywheel new clutch and release bearing approx £3ooish prob looking at another £300 labour.

if it turns out to be bottom end knock then tbh you would be better getting a second hand engine. possibly 500-1000ish

hope im wrong and it turns out to be summot simple

Engine sounds fked.

could be gearbox?

my gearbox sounded like a fluffed dmf before it went boom

Extremely loud tappets could be an indicator a valve not opening fully hence giving a misfiring sound.

Brilliant idea recording it though.

I had a similar problem and it ended up being a mounting on the gearbox, second hand gearbox was sourced and fitted, good job the bloke i bought the car off paid for the work as i'd only owned the car 2 days!
