A look at average fuel prices over the world in US Dollars

Featured Replies

One figure stands out there and that's the US one.

That's so cheap it's not funny, although if you speak the an American, most think it's pretty expensive over there right now.

True, they probably have lower tax, but it does show how it differs in Europe vs the US.

Wonder what the figures for India and China and Russia are.

Only a handful of countries listed have diesel more expensive than unleaded- UK Bulgaria, Sweden and Estonia- what a select bunch we are.

And to think petrol and diesel are made in the same process with the diesel coming off EARLIER in the refinement process! That is why in most all countries diesel is cheaper since petrol needs further refinement...

Pity the average Chinese (not shown on your chart); petrol is about 1/2 the UK price (70p per litre at Christmas), but the average wage is about 1/10th!!!!

We mugs in the UK and europe probably pay more for them Yanks to get it cheap.

Actually, diesel is a heavier fraction than gasoline so comes of later in the fractionation process. However, the fraction taken for diesel is very similar to that of heating oils and Jet fuel and thus compete with each other for that part of the barrel. However, i believe the price differential, especially in the UK, is due to higher levels of taxationon diesel.

Cost of fuel in the US has obviously risen quite steeply, i was only paying $ 2.50 for a US gallon (equivalent to 66p/l) back in August when i was in Florida.

No, same tax on both.

As for the US - they may have cheaper fuel but we don't have to pay a fortune for basic healthcare.

if you look at their cars & the amount of fuel they guzzle, in reality theyr probably paying the same per litre per mile as we are, but a fooled by the cost per tank..

US have always had cheaper fuel and yet uses more than us per person due to their stupid size engines and poor mpg. Some of the diesel pickups will get if lucky on a highway run 8-9 (US)MPG

When I was in the states I used about 12 gallons to do about 250 miles which works out to about 20mpg and that was all at cruising speed on main highways

A US gallon is a lot smaller than ours though....

Yep, by 20% or rather 3.79 litres compared to an imperial gallon of 4.54 litres and i took that into consideration when i made my post with regard to the cost of fuel.

I must admit i did have a Jeep commander with a 3.6 litre V6 (probably the only time i will drive such a car, i certainly would never buy one) and covered about 600 miles in 12 days. Spent almost as much on fuel as i would have done in my Vectra that did 38 mpg covering the same distance. As i knew fuel would be cheap (in comparrison to the UK) i took the opportunity to hire such a vehicle. a bit stupid really as i normally refer to them as planet killers but that is a completely different topic  .

its funny how in the netherlands that petrol is 30cent dearer than diesel thats really wierd lol

NZ $2.13 for 95RON here now. Works out about US$1.57 at current exchange rate :)

Just filled up yesterday, unleaded 99.9 pence per litre at my local Total garage which is also the Skoda dealer.

I see you are in Jersey. Do you pay VAT over there, as I know in Guernsey you don't. Do you still pay fuel duty though?

$3.07 per US Gallon in Florida, beginning of half term week - fuelling the 3.0L V6 4x4 was fairly painless...

... but it was up to $3.35 per US Gallon by the end of the week...

Al.

Funny this should be posted. An American friend of mine posted a picture on his Facebook of his recent fuel fill and was moaning at the cost.

It was $90.34 (roughly £56) for 22.147 US Gallons of fuel.

I did a quick conversion to see what it would cost us for the same amount over here.

At 140.9p per litre (I went off my last fill, V-Power, regular unleaded is cheaper but not that much cheaper) and it came back at $188.71 dollars which is roughly £117.18.

That is a £61 difference!

I told him to count himself lucky ;)

american prices have fluctuated too, i was paying about 3.50 dollars a gallon in california a few weeks ago, and they were saying last yr their prices went up to $5 a gallon, its hard to feel sympathy however when we pay so much!

It's true that their fuel is cheaper, but then they pay a huge amount for healthcare that cancels out any savings. It's fine if you have a good job that includes it as part of your salary but as a private individual you either pay a fortune in premiums or gamble on vast bills should you be ill or injured.

On a biking website I use they were talking about bills of tens of thousands of dollars after a very minor crash and much higher for anything more substantial.
