vRS running lights/side lights

Featured Replies

Hi there

Can any of you vRS owners help me with this question

I am awaiting delivery of my vRS (when?)but the dealer told me that the vRS does not have a side light bulb incorporated in the main headlight unit

Instead it has running lights fitted which come one when the engine is started but dim when the side light switch is activated and thus act as side lights

Is this true?

Today I looked at a 11 reg vRS but it had sidelight bulbs in the main light unit

Very confusing

How I envy all you lucky vRS owners

Yep , you are correct.

The side light bulb in the headlight does not come on !!

The daylight running lights are also the sidelights.

+1 to johns reply. Exactly right

without headlights, the LED's in the running lights are really bright. when you put your headlights on they dim to become sidelights...

exactly the same as the mini or fiat 500....

So what happens if you disable the DRL's with the switch in the fuse box ?. Do the sidelights in the headlamps then come on with the sidelight switch, or are they permanently disabled and you just get the dimmed DRL's ?.

Still waiting for my vrs .........build it soon please.

Has anybody noticed that there is actually some sidelights installed in the headlight cluster?

I'm not sure if they are wired in or not though.

I don't beleive the sides come on, but I'm not sure... I have the curve projector headlights and one other bulb in there (full beam)

They don't come on as far as I know, it just looks like there is an extra, smaller bulb in there.

Probably because the light unit is standard across the range and it is just wired differently dependent on the model to save costs. My Vectra has two rear fog lights but only one works (offside) as required by law but the bulb is fitted and not blown on the near side. Complete pain in a**e when the car is telling you that a bulb is out somewhere on the car and your trying to find it.

Doesn't the option exist in other countrys for fog lights instead of DRL's hence the sidelight bulbs in the main light housing? Just we don't get the fog's option?

Hmmm strange this. I dont have mine yet but are you sure the other bulb isnt the main beam unit? I had a Vauxhall Corsa with DE module headlamps a good number of years ago and i'm sure the DE unit only does dipped beam, main is a separate traditional bulb unit. Would make sense why there are bulbs there but you wouldnt see them lit (unless the fulls are on).

I'm pretty sure on the normal FL fabia the foglight unit is the DRL + dipped beam unit also so has the same sort of setup.

Yes you are correct this is a continental option

If you wanted to you could replace the DRLs with fog lights(probably have to get them fron Europe)

Wire in the redundant bulbs in the headlight unit to act as DRLs and side lights

Might have canbus warning light problems but could be overcome

Is it worth doing this?

I was told by the stealer that if you order Curve Projector headlights you get fog lights in place of the DRLs. I've not seen this mentioned anywhere else though.

As I have the curve projectors I can confirm the dealer is talking out of his arse. UK VRS=DRL's period

seeing Can's car, I concur

I've just checked my order form and it states 'Curve projector halogen headlights and cornering front fog lights £229.17'.
