8mm Cine Film to DVD

I'm sorry but I can't recommend any companies. I've got a box load of cine film from a family friend who died last year and when I priced up how much it would cost to convert I nearly collapsed myself!!!

I've got my nan's old cine projector and I am going to do it myself, but the power cable is missing :( Depending on how many you've got it might be cheaper to buy a projector and a camcorder and do it yourself!!

I have the projector- I repaired it today- a 1970s Prinz Magnon Super iQ (Dixons own brand, made for them in Japan) that needed a drive belt and a clean/lube. I don't have loads of film, so the conversion may not be too expensive for me.

Sure it should be easy to fabricate a power cable for it

If you're near Southampton there is a photography place in the carlton road/bedford place that offers this service.

http://cityphotographic.co.uk/

Never used that service myself, but no reason to suspect any issues as they've been very good for everything else I've used them for.

Maybe they offer a mail in service too?

Personally I'd recommend AFX Audio Visual Services Ltd.

A professional, friendly, reliable outfit, with a 1 week turnaround time. (I promise that I'm not prejudiced simply because I work for them. :giggle: )

Seriously, check their website out, including the price list:

www.afx-av.co.uk

As a matter of information, the majority of photographic shops, studios etc. don't do their own conversion work as it is fairly specialised and requires kit that it's not economic for a shop that might only do a couple of conversions a week to purchase (we do between 600 and 1000 jobs p.w.)They act as agents for us - we have over 1500 agents across England & Wales.

Even many / most of the firms that advertise on the net in fact only forward them to us.

If you are interested pm me with your postcode and I'll point you in the direction of your nearest. (you can deal with us direct but TBH it saves no money and as all our parcels are hand delivered to and from the Agents by ourselves it's more reliable)

Just need to work out which pin is which and i could sort it! I've seen cables which are apparently for a prinz magnon on fleebay but the plug isn't right :(

I can meter out my power cable if you like. I'm pretty sure the centre pin is earth, and the plug fits either way round. I'll check.

That would be cool if you could. I was thinking this morning that I could just swap out the old power connector and install a newer one (something like a cloverleaf or standard kettle lead - depending on size!).

Right. My projector is a Prinz Magnon Super iQ, like this one. The mains connector is 3 pins in a straight line, and it fits either way up. The centre pin is earth, the outer ones live & neutral- it doesn't matter which, as like I say, the plug isn't keyed. It only goes to a transformer inside anyway.

cjb - Just dug the projector out and the plug isn't keyed, so sounds similar to yours. I've taken the back off and there's loads of room in there so I'm going to do is just wire up an old kettle lead and just have a permanent fly lead.

Cheers for the pointer

Dave
