MPEG4 to MP3 - how?

Featured Replies

Is it possible to convert MPEG4 files (ie all my Ipod tunes) to MP3 so that they can be burnt onto a CD or transferred to a mobile?

Is some kind of software needed?

I thought MPEG4 was video compression??

IPod tunes should be MP3 using AAC....you need to convert from AAC to something else which will play on a cd e.g LAME.

Try powerAmp.

They are MPEG4, and AFAIK, you can't convert them. You can write them to an audio CD, then convert to MP3, but you're compressing a compressed file, rather than converting from one format to another, and I'm not sure how it would turn out in terms of quality.

this works a charm. best software to use is imtoo and it takes literally seconds to do. As a word of warning see the below table:

AAC 128 = MP3 192

AAC 64 = MP3 128

So if you want to preserve quality always pick the next one up in quality when re-encoding to a lesser format.

Imtoo Audio Encoder has a warning but clicking ok will get rid and it will encode.

Also worth trying this for protected files

not used it because refuse to buy an ipod

Cheers for that second link David...I have quite a few protected ones I bought from the itunes store which wouldn't go on my car MP3.

@AndyD

Sorry mate...just automatically thought you meant protected MPEG4's...that's why I said it wasn't possible :)
