Teething Troubles 6 speed??

Featured Replies

Got Octy 2 on Jan 5th - first week no probs. (Read seperate thread) I particularly praised the 'smooth as silk' gearchange.

2nd week, had one instance in a car park where I stopped and put the car in neutral with engine still running. Then tried to move car into a parking space - couldn't get ANY gear whatsoever even if forced!! Turned engine off, and was able to select gears. Put in neutral, restarted car and couldn't select gears again. Turned car off again and this time restarted after putting it in gear. No further problems after this. Called Skoda Assist who sent out a nice, but not the brightest AA patrolman who subsequently reported NO FAULT FOUND!! Said maybe clutch sticking??

Problem never re-occured after this - until now. Just lately the car is very difficult to gear down from 4th-3rd-2nd-1st (alright going up the box). It seems particularly bad when the car is cold and is very noticeable when driving in town stop-start traffic. Sometimes the gears will even 'crunch' when trying to force 1st gear as if the clutch pedal isn't fully floored. Mileage now 2700.

Called today at my local dealership having just driven 115 miles from work so the car was nice and warm and the dealers response - NO FAULT FOUND!!

Just wondered if anyone else was experiencing similar problems before I leave the car with the dealer to try first thing in a morning when cold??

Does sound like the clutch is not clearing fully.

Sorry can't be of more help.

Cheers

Sounds to me like a clutch hydraulic problem. It might just need further bleeding.

Gearbox still problematic after last posted thread.

Last night I parked against a wall (nose first) and left the car for approx. 1hr.

Came out and got in car - started fine. Tried to select reverse, not a chance. Switched engine off and forced car into reverse gear. Put foot on clutch fully and restarted the car and low and behold the car lurched backwards!!

Still waiting for Skoda UK to provide an alternative car so they investigate mine. Using dealer in Sheffield but their Skoda UK loan car is booked out for the next 5 weeks.

Sounds like the hydraulic clutch has leaked or one of the cylinders has failed.

Either way its a dealer job.

I'd avoid driving it like this as you could trash the gearbox

I'd push the dealer a bit more as that's classed as a safety issue in my book. If their loan car is booked out for 5 weeks then they need to source you a hire car paid for my the warranty providor.

PS, dont tell anyone I said this as a) I use the dealer in Sheffield and B) My partner works for the Warranty providor ;)

Try another dealer, a wait that long for a loan car is stupd. My dealer will proberbly be able to sort one in a couple of days, but they are miles away from you.

Had the same problem (dare I say it) with a Rover. Turned out the hydraulic clutch hed not been bled properly and the hotter the system got. the less effective the clutch became. After a third bleed everything was fine.

I don't think that it is a fault with the gearbox at all - however - if you continue to struggle along with a dodgy clutch, you will end up with g/box probs. HTH
