Jacking points and axle stands

Featured Replies

I need to get the front of my Fabia 2.0i up on axle stands but I am unclear as to where the axle stands can go with the trolley jack in the way. I have the following pikky. Could someone please point out the best place?

BTW, I just bought the Halfraud's trolley + axle stands + inspection trolley set which seems like a good buy for £60.

I bought the same kit it's pretty good and trade card makes it £47 lol

At the front I believe axle stands can go under the console bushes if those parts do not need to be moved. On the beam there's a big warning sticker telling you not to jack or stand on any part of it.

The text that goes with the above picture from the Skoda service manual is....

Using a lift platform and a workshop jack

The vehicle must only be raised with a workshop jack in the indicated jacking points -arrows-.

To avoid damage use a suitable rubber or wood insert.

The rear support points are located in the make axle embossed in the sill -arrow-.

WARNING!

Under no circumstances may the arms of the lift platform or jack be positioned under the engine, the gearbox, the front or rear axles. Never start the engine or engage a gear when the vehicle is raised, while a driving wheel is in contact with the ground. Secure the vehicle on the lift platform before its centre of gravity shifts considerably because of successive disassembly operations.

The vehicle must not be supported at the front under the sill.

I need to take off the cover to get at the dog bone, which I think may have a perished rubber. I have looked at this thread. I have not looked underneath the car yet, so I do not know what these components look like. All I have to go on from the above thread is this:

This seems to suggest that the axle stands are supported here:

Are these the console bushes?

If you are just changing the dogbone , jack up the front at the jacking point and the axle stands can go under the chassis rails where you put your ? marks on the diagram. Use wooden blocks if necessary so you don't dent the rails and get it as high as possible so you have room to work.

DO NOT JACK FROM THE SILL. Made that mistake :(

Are the chassis rails definitely reinforced enough to axle stand?

How much did that cost?

Yep, good enough as long as you use a shaped block of wood.

As for jacking at the sill make sure you use a grooved hardwood block to fit the sill lip but only at the jacking points at the ends of the sill, there is a triangular shaped dimple showing where the jacking point is.

Wind the jack down and pretend it never happened...

Well, this was not much help. On full jack height, I could not quite get the axle stands in beyond the first peg position. Being a fat git, I could not get underneath the car. I just wanted to check out where the noise was coming from with a view to perhaps fixing it myself. So it's off to the dealer. I just didn't want to be tempted by those shiny new VRSs in the showroom!

A piece of solid 2x2 wood block, will act as extra jack height if needed. Provides some cushioning for the bodywork as well.

You should have bought the Halfords Pro jack, Just the right amount of lift.
