petrol injector help please

Featured Replies

HI,the engine in my 1.3 mpi felicia is very noisey at the top i've just changed the water pump so this noise was probably there before but i couldnt here it cause of the water pump, the noise only becomes noticable once the engine has warmed up and listining closely to it the sound seems to be coming from the injectors is this possible.it's not the tappets as i can hear them(just).oil ok,water ok and all filters have been renewed,i've got a set of injectors and a fuel rail from my local scrappy for £10 but i want to know if this will make any difference before i start taking things apart!!.thanks in advance.

also the tickover is slightly erratic again only when the engine has warmed up,starts and runs fine when cold.

I'd be surprised if they were that noisy (or indeed that they would change sound when the engine is warm), but it's about a 15 minute job to swap them over so you don't have much to lose in trying it.

you sure it's not the timing chain having a good old rattle?

dont think its the timing chain as the sound seems to cme from the top of the engine,as i said ican just hear the tappets and the noise is higher than them right where the injectors are,but if it turns out to be the chain will it be ok or would i need to change it,cars only done 72,600 miles,i'd expect to get at least double that before timing chains start to wear out!!

prob is the chain at that mileage, they dont last too long as there is no tensioner on them.

have you tried pressing your ear to a screwdriver and pressing the screwdriver to the injectors to see if you csn here the noise louder then?

no but i will tomorrow when i get back from work,is changing the chain a hard job, would i have to take the engine out or can it be done by dropping the engine off the mount?

Chain can be done in situ - maybe 2 hours if you take your time and haven't done it before, it's fairly straightforward if you're methodical.
