Octavia 58 Reg 1.9 tdi.

Just changed my clutch, and after phoning loads of dealers including Skoda and giving them Reg, engine numbers and gearbox codes all said that this car should have had a DMF fitted as standard, so finally ordered Only to find my car had the Solid one fitted.

Got intouch with Skoda and after 3 emails and phone calls they finally rang me back about it and at first they did not know what to say and could not explain it.

Sent me this email which does not really make any sense as they dont mentiuon which make of car they are talking about.

Here is copy of the email that they sent me which does not really awnser my quistion.

Dear Mr Parkin

I am writing further to our telephone conversation regarding the rationale behind fitting a dual or single mass flywheel on your

vehicle. Having liaised with our Technical Department, I am now in a position to provide a detailed response, which I hope

proves useful.

The factory will determine which flywheel will be fitted to a vehicle by comparing the engine's power output to the

transmission. Different power outputs will suit either a single or dual mass flywheel.

The starter motor plays no other role in the operation of the vehicle other than to provide a rotational speed which enables the

engine to start. The only time the starter motor engages with the flywheel is when the solenoid meshes with the ring gear on the

flywheel.

I hope I have been able to offer adequate clarification into your concerns; however if you require further information, please

I guess your car has a DMF, and it has already been changed for a solid one at somepoint in its life. Why the bloke is banging on about starter motors I have no idea!

Ive had the car from Brand New and this is the first clutch.

Had starting moter changed under warranty, the ring gear fell off the flywheel when it was took out, not sure if it caused the problem with starter.

Skoda now say that they DONT KNOW, why this car had the SFL fitted from the factory and they CAN NOT EXPLAIN it.

It was fitted from Brand New so there must be a reason.

Caused loads of hassle when ordering clutch as all dealers siad it needed the DMF, then had to wait nearly another two days for the right part, loosing work.

Wont be buying from Skoda no more.
