Just viewed my first fabia vrs. Advice?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just been to see a fabia vrs but not sure if its a good deal and wondered if anyone could give me some feedback. Its on 04 in silver, 140k on the clock (too high??), full service and cambelt has just been done. mot has just been done and tax has 6 months to run. looks tidy apart from a few marks on the outside (stone chips etc) but to be expected as almost 7 years old. alloys are scuffed but not corroded. interior is clean, no rips. all electrics seem to work ok too. price is £3,400.

Is this a good price for mileage age? Never owned a vrs before so not sure. is there anything i should be wary of with this sort of mileage?

Any advice would be greatly received. Thanks.

make sure the usual common problems have been fixed e.g. leaking rear doors (check to see if rear carpets are wet) if its had a straight MOT all suspension components 'should' be ok. did it get any advises on MOT it should tell you in a little box on the green pass sheet. make sure waterpump was changed with the timing belt

look on history see if its had a clutch or turbo replaced before now because at that mileage one if not both items could need replacing shortly. take that into consideration when thinking weather to buy it or not.

hope it helps you.

£3400 aint that cheap considering the miles IMO. Try to haggle down to £3000

It ought to be on its third cambelt by now with that sort of miles.

As a new VRS owner I have recently purchased an 03 model with 113k. It has been well maintained with FSH, so I consider mileage not to be an issue. I paid far less than what you are looking towards paying :)

I would be a bit concerned with the state of the injectors at that mileage. Plus as said above, turbo might be close to lifes end as well. Certainly no more than 3K, but expect to shell out for some biggish repairs in the future.

Thanks for your input guys. Looks like it might be too much ££ going by what has been said here. Must admit the mileage was a concern. Not many examples in this neck of the woods so I was tempted as it was close by.

vr6 south - how much did you pay for yours, if you dont mind me asking?

Anyone selling theirs?

One big tip - don't be afraid to travel for a good one! Its worth it in the long run!

Look on for sale section, few for £5k ish

Yeah for the sake of a train/coach ticket to get there its worth travelling for sure

I recently purchased mine for £3500 it had 88k and is an 06, with fsh clutch/flywheel and belts replaced on it.

I shopped about for quite a while. I used to work at skoda sales belfast for a while so when i phoned an old pal who is a mechanic for purchase advice he recommended ensuring a good history that can be verified and if you are buying a remapped one to check who did it and what it is running at!

Happy shopping

Yeah seen a few in the classifieds on here but £5k is a bit out of my budget tbh, looking around £3,500. I think travelling to get a good one is the way.

drh771 - sounds like you got yourself a nice motor there, just the sort of thing I'm looking for. Thanks for the advice.

PM sent :)

unfortunately with a budget of that size the optios become very limited unless you shop for ages, are prepared to travel and have awesome haggling skills.

On the usual suspects of Autotrader and eBay there are only a handful of cars in your price braket and they are all high mileage. I wouldn't let a high mileage put you off if backed up by the right history.

Unless you're absolutely set on the Fabia check out the Seat Ibiza Sport PD130 too (which became the FR later in life)

They arrived slightly before the VRS (my old one was on an 02 plate) but is mechanically identical inderneath.

Maybe this one here or this one here

Actually that second one is an absolute bargain! Hmmm wot's in the piggy bank? :)

Still looking but nothing so far.

I have been in contact with the guy selling the fabia I went to see. He has come down to £2,750 but I just found out it needs a service. Also the cambelt has not been replaced, he has the full kit and water pump but has not had it fitted yet. Spoke to a local garage and have been quoted about £200 to fit the belt and pump and carry out a service.

Taking this into consideration I am tempted.

Any thoughts on this?

Seems expensive to me, theres never any harm in waiting, I have seen a few pop up around the 3k margin, with a lot less miles. but £2750 isn't all bad, if you flash the cash he might bite at 2500/2600

It ought to be on its third cambelt by now with that sort of miles.

3rd?! Why? 60,000 - 120,000 - 180,000. considering when the first one was done the limit was 80,000 so prob got a little longer still tbh.

Sounds like a better deal now tbh get it fully serviced up, belt fitted good to go. Matt

hi newbie,

there was a 03 reg, silver vrs with 99k for £2750 on gumtree a few weeks ago,its in norwich thou.

it took me 6mths to find my vrs,had same problem, none close by that were any good. happy hunting.

best going to an auction

a 55 plate 60k miler went for 3300

i wouldnt consider a vrs at 140k unless you want big repair bills, turbo / clutch / flywheel

1st to 60k

2nd to 120k

then onto number 3, thats why!

Oh yeah lol, maths never was my strong point lolol.

Don't panic if it's on it's second still tho, mine had the first change on the original 80k interval gap, so it's more than likely bang on for it's next one.

As for big bills, £100 for a decent low mile pd130 turbo and £100-£150 fitting isn't massive IMO. Listen out for the dmf and check the clutch mine lasted 120,000 miles on it's first.
