How clean does a car need to be to wax it?

...hi guys been folowing this thread ....and was wondering whats the main purpose of polishing/claying and should these be done on a new car??

Yes. In short.

New cars have been sat outside for weeks, they've been transported on the back of a lorry for miles, then the dealer gets it and wipes a sponge over it using one bucket. Then worst if all he takes a chamois to it.

If you want to spend the time on it to prepare and protect the paint then go for it. I would but then I am obsessed. :D

If ever I get the chance to order a brand new car, I'd be collecting it just as it rolled off the transporter :yes:

Thats what I arranged when I had my new VRS a year ago

I then got 'Baker21' to detail it 3 weeks later. Brilliant finish on it which has lasted with only quick detailing and one top up with Autoglym HD wax.

He did clay it but very little muck came off
