Fabia Greenline II Cam belt or Chain ?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Considering buying the Fabia Greenline estate

I want to know if the 1.2 litre 3 cylinder diesel engine has a cam belt or chain ( I hate CAM BELTS!)

(what about the 1.6 Diesels?)

also anyone know why the hatch has brake discs fitted at the rear but the estate has drums?

cheers

1.2 htp 3 cylinder engine has a cam chain.

1.6 diesel will have a belt

many thanks Moley

I have asked a couple of my local dealers & 50% say belt 50% chain & thats after they have checked with the workshop

doesn't inspire me with much confidence

1.6 diesel will have a belt

The HTP is a petrol engine and uses a cam chain (I owned one)Not to be confused with the 1.2 litre diesel.

1.2 diesel is a cambelt i'm afraid - its based on the same engine as the 1.6 diesel but missing a cylinder....

2tite, either cam chain or belt will be fine. Don't get too hung up on the argument about which system is best. You would think chains are best, but in reality this is not always the case. Chains do break! I've had chains break with remarkable ease on cars and vans I've owned (not yet on any Skoda's though). Fiat and Ford in particular had major problems at one time with chain breakage on the diesel 2litre engines in cars and vans, but most makes suffer from chain breakage on occasions. It usually down to a whole bucket load of factors as to whether a cambelt or chain actually breaks. So whatever you buy, don't worry about it. Belts are the most common form of drive for camshafts because they don't sap power and are very very quiet and reliable if replaced at the proper intervals. Belts even drive the oil pumps on many modern vehicles now to prevent oil pump gear failure. It's also reckoned to be more reliable.
