keyfob drianing the battery

Featured Replies

after purchasing ym car lately ive changed the battery in the key as the central locking wasnt working.

a week later and ive changed it yet again for a new battery.

now today that battery has died,

the red light doesnt even light up when pressed so i dont think its to do with being out of sync.

each battery change ive done ive pressed the button to unlock and its worked withput re syncing.

is this a usual problem or is it just my luck?

ive spoke to my local skoda garage and the bloke said he has never heard of a key fob draining the battery

Should have two keys, try using the other key fob, see how you get on.

Key fob should only operate only when pressed, but yours seem engaged continually.

If by using spare key fob everything seems fine, ask seller to supply a replacement, (not cheap thing to replace.)

i havent got a spare key as my mate who i got the car off isnt sure where he put the spare but he is looking for it.

yes it does seem its pulling the power all the time.

when i took the key appart earlier to try a new battery there is small deposits of green/blue powder on the circuit board.

ive cleaned it off as best as i can, going to try a new battery and see how long it lasts

I've seen a few go like that, the cure is to replace the remote at around £40 + programming.

If the corrosion you mentioned is causing a short circuit it would drain the battery quickly.

do u mean replace the circuit board?

ive seen a few of the fobs with circuit boards on ebay for £30 but unsure if i can program the key to my car myself

The complete remote. You need to be wary if buying a used one, as even though they might look the same they could be incompatible with your car. For example a pre facelift MK1 Octavia remote will not work with the later facelift car.

This happened to me recently. Had to replace the back of the key fob as it had broken. New one seemed a lot tighter than the old broken one.

Upshot is the lock button sticks in when pressed and drained the battery pretty quickly. Next time you change the battery press the unlock button. Keep an eye on the red light it may flash continuously. If it does sticky button.

I havent found a permanent cure yet but pressing the lock button a few times usually unsticks it. Key fob can be shielded with your hand or boddy to avoid locking the car if you need it open.

Hope this helps.

I have seen large cards full of different sized (watch) batteries (50) at my local boot-sale, selling for £1.00.

These fit loads of different electrical appliances.

At least it will be cheaper to replace your battery in the remote, if it's power hungry.??

I buy them regular to replace any watch batteries where a watch is selling cheap because it requires a new battery.

Needless to say my grand-kids always come to me if their watch stops and requires a new battery. LOLemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

so that battery lasted 3 days.

ive taken the whole thing appart, cleaned the circuit board, made sure the buttons arent stuck and put it back together again.

i havent got the sticky button as the red light doesnt flash when i am not using the keys,(ive had it on my lap for a hour the weekend)
