About those speakers...

Featured Replies

I am no audiofile but I do find the OEM speakers appealing. Compared to my mates 10 plated Golf they are light years behind. Now I have a carPC running my speakers atm, through a low spec 50w x 4 RMS amp.

I am after an improvement so am looking at replacing the speakers. How have people gone about this, I take it from searching they are 6.5" but with the tweeters as well has anyone come a bit unstuck over it? Will a higher spec amp make any difference to the OEM speakers, or is it a bit of a lost cause?

How easy are the door cards to remove, front & rear?

Cheers guys :)

I have found a walkthrough on removing the doorcards, does anyone have any recommendations on good speakers to use? :)

In terms of amps, my budget one, will that suffice for the time being powering speakers such as those^?

I am reading mixed opinions on speaker size. I gather the front ones at 6.5" but what are the rears? Are they the same size?

Cheers guys :)

Can anyone comment on the speaker sizes front & rear? I have found from searching that the fronts are 6.5" and rears 5.25" but other threads contradict this!

OEM 2-way front woofers are 8". 6.5" is a more common aftermarket component size, used in an adapter ring.

Well the bolero is only 20W/channel which is why I am using those particular speakers - they are designed to work well with that sort of wattage. However you have 50W/channel which means you aren't as constrained - pretty well everything is going to work well with 50W.

As for size, I have 6.5 in the front and 5.25 in the rear using adapters. Have you seen this thread:

Where did you get the adapters from to make the 6.5" speakers fit in the front (8"). If you made your own, any tips or advice on how you did it?

I have 5.25" speakers lined up for the rear, and hopefully they will be a straight swap.

edit: and thanks for that link, seen it before and am sure I will be using it religiously one sunny weekend! :p

Bumb in the hope of catching DbD/anyone who can help! :)

edit: The speakers I am looking at have the following dimensions:

The tweeters, in flush mount format, have a mounting diameter of 2 inches. They have depth of 1.2 inches. The woofers have a depth of 2.75 inches for mounting.

please just note that at the booklet it says that modifications to the doors may cause airbag activation problems...

check this out when installing new in door speakers...

Well I paid a professional car audio shop to do it. I don't mind a bit of fiddling around replacing speakers, but between having different front rear speakers of funny sizes, separate tweeters and not knowing what speakers would work best I decided to get it done properly. Using a professional costs more but it's a lot less effort and I am very happy with the result.
