Engine Mount Bushings

Featured Replies

Hey,

I was going to treat the car to some new engine mount bushings, seing as the engine seems to be jumping around a bit, and the gearchange has become slightly notchy every now and again, but this dosnt seem to have been as simple as I had hoped, and many decisions need to be made, which hopefully you guys may be able to help with.....

Powerflex or Superpro? Which produces the least nasty vibrations?

In the real world, what advantages / disadvantages does the insert / replacement bush produce?

Insert on its own for the rear bush, or replace the front bush too?

Does anyone know what my OEM mounts P/N is, as this seems to make a difference as to which insert / bush to get? (bearing in mind that mine has the CCZA TSI engine fitted)

Sorry for the millions of questions, I just want to get it right first time!

Cheers

Anybody? :'(

If I was you Id opt for the THS engine mounts. They do not transmit any vibrations as they are a 30% stiffer rubber but are a totally different design mount and decrease engine movement by 50% over the OE ones. Once funds allow I will be going for these. They are expensive but they are worth it as they dont transmit any vibrations into the cabin.

I see your vRS is an LE, this would suggest it is only a few years old?

Seems a little unusual for the engine mounts to be worn already.

Are you sure the lumpy idle and sticky gear change isn't being caused by something else?

As silver1011 has suggested, the THS set is a good option, about 30% stiffer than OEM and superior, I would keep my eye on the MKV GTI forumas I anticipate an imminent group buy again.

Personally I will (fingers crossed) be getting my grubby little mitts on vRSCarls' set of VF Engineering mounts, I can confirm that with those bad boys fitted the engine is far more responsive and the noise in the cabin can be mistaken for a six pot when the throttle is buried! B)

He has got a 2009 vRS LE, but it has done above average mileage.
