Columbus Sat Nav

Featured Replies

I have 2009 superb elegance DSG (russo brunello)and just loaded a V7 RNS map DVD from Sat-Navi. However, is it me, or is there still a limitation on post code entry. I can enter, for example 'PL14', but then it gives me a list of '4 Liskeard' 5 Liskeard' etc. I still dont seem to be able to enter the final part, e.g. '6EG'. Any advice please?

Hi Bill2,

I found 2760 & downloaded. They are in win.rar files says '2760-all'. Do I need to extract these then burn them to DVD & is it simply a matter of loading the disc & letting it do its thing?

Extract the RAR file, onto your HDD and you should get an ISO file in a folder. If all you get is a load of files then you have downloaded the wrong thing. An ISO is a CD/DVD image, so open nero or simillar then select disk copy, open the ISO as the source file and select the recorder as destination. Now select a slow burning speed and away you go. Once you have burnt the disk put it back into your PC and you should see a lot of files and folders.

Upgrading the firmware takes about 1hr and the car cannot be started or used in this time or the process will fail and your columbus will become a brick. Dealer will not want to know because firmware upgrades are meant to be done only by the dealer.

There are numerous threads on the process, in both here and the Octavia2 forum since the same columbus is used in both.

I am using 2760 and V7.1 maps and the 7 digit postcode works fine.

Dont forget with 3800 you must use V7.1 maps (V7388) or newer otherwise you'll have no POIs as the format used in 3800 is different to the data on V7 maps.

I did and still no 7 digit postcode not a big problem as Ireland have no PC's yet new maps are still behind

This is what I have discovered! Got 3800 but only v7 maps...zero POI!

Apologies for the slight hijack, but I've got v7.1 and never upgraded maps before - do you just slap the CD into the Columbus and it will automatically fire up? Or do you need to do a reset with it in the drive? And do you leave ignition on for whole time?

Thanks!

You dont need the ignition on at all, open the car turn unit on and put disc in and go back in an hour

You don't need the ignition on. Switch on the Columbus, slap in the DVD. After it's been read, you'll get a message asking whether to use the disk temporarily, or save to the database. Choose "save" and leave it alone for an hours or so. :)

Is it not the case that the unit will switch off after 30 minutes due to battery saving if you leave the ignition off.

If I remember correctly you are left to guess when the upgrade is complete. there is no message or auto eject.

You're right in saying that there's no message or auto-eject. However, if you take the DVD out before it's finished, if the Columbus is on it will warn you and show a progress bar, indicating how much data is left to download. If the Columbus is off, it will ask for the DVD again when you try to use the navigation. You can also let it update during a journey.

Ray

if the unit switches off loading the map, it will resume where it left off when its next turned on. You can continue to navigate whilst the data is being copied, it just reads it from the DVD until the copy is finished,
