Towing a Caravan

Featured Replies

Will anyone with a Octy 140 dsg share their expeiances towing a caravan. I have just bought the Bailey Pegasus 462 max weight 1326klg and for our Octy thats just about its 80% towing level. The noseweight has been bugging me what with the Skoda 75klg max weight.

Not towed with the 140, but my two 170 vRS's have been perfect towcars. I'm towing slightly less weight at 1310Kg, though my 'van has a the same layout as yours and (being a dealer special) similar spec to you too.

Luckily my Swift's noseweight comes out bang on 75Kg. I know that many Pegasus/Olympus/Unicorn owners are having big issues with noseweight.

I have to say that with 75KG on the nose, Alko shocks, Alko stabiliser and Alko ATC I have the most stable outfit I've ever had in a lifetimes caravanning ... and also probably the fastest off the mark too!

Hi,

I have been towing a Pegasus 514 with a 140 Yeti last year (I have a 140 Scout on order). This is my first caravan and tow car and we have really enjoyed it.

The nose weight is a pain, but being new at towing I have been careful to monitor this and it has towed great.

Hope that helps.

i tow a olympus 534 with an octavia VRS diesel and i think i am at a 93 or 94% match with the outfit. Tows a dream!

www.towcar.info is a good place to start for getting car/caravan match ups. OOOO, this is my 1000th post. :)

It's not long since a similar thread to this was running so try a search for some further advice. I tow a Sterling Europa 495 (max about 1450kg - but never loaded to that) with my Octavia Scout with the 2.0 PD 140 bhp engine but NOT the dsg box. It is a dream to tow (the 'van has ALKO stability control as well). I haven't had any problems at all.

At that weight you wont have any problems pulling it along (engine wise), there are quite a few members on here who tow with their PD140's (myself included ABI Jubliee 5birth) but most have the manual gearbox.

Heres a thread I started last year, unfortunatly there aren't any comments regarding the DSG box but plenty praising both Petrol & Diesel Octavias.
