Wing mirror glass

Featured Replies

I phoned my local dealer looking for a price for a replacement glass for the drivers wing mirror and was told that it would be £50.

Has anyone ever replaced one before and know if that's right? It seems pretty steep to me!

Going to try another place tomorrow, just in case.

What type of car is it for? , and is your old glass cracked and still in place or fallen out, also is it a heated mirror glass?

It's an Octavia II.

The glass had obviously been off before then just stick on badly, it fell off the other day and smashed.

Yup, it's heated.

I got one off ebay for about £7. OK it hasn't got the line down it, and it doesnt thaw as quick when the heaters on, but it shows me what is behind me, which is all a mirror has to do really.

Yep, that'll fit.

I'm a believer of 'you get what you pay for' though.

As above it might not defrost as quickly but as long as you can see what is behind you.

Also, you can buy a few of those before reaching the £50 needed for a genuine one...

Exactly!

I'll just go for it then, cheers.

Is it only me or does anyone else find the line down the glass dreadful. I thought it on the last non-Skoda and this one is just as bad. It makes my eyes feel odd and I can't see which bit magnifies or diminishes anyway.

I'd far rather have a normal mirror.

Personally I never ever notice it.
