Another misfuel...

Featured Replies

Bad luck Skippymon. It's a problem begging for a real solution. You'd think that with all the electronic whizzery in cars that a sensor could be put in the fuel system that could either close off the filler pipe straightaway, or at least prevent the evil petrol being drawn into the motor.

I toyed with the idea of fitting one of the mis-fuelling prevention what-nots, but when I went trawling through the reviews, I couldn't find any that didn't seem to have caused some sort of problem with Skodas when filling.

In the end, I got a self-adhesive 'Diesel' sticker to put on the car just above the filler flap. It's cheap, it looks good, it's not peeled off or faded in three years, and it's been a handy reminder (so far.......). Plenty for sale on fleabay.

It would be clever if cars had an NFC tag on the fuel filler and the nozzle had a sensor on that would read what fuel the car needs and would not activate if you had the wrong nozzle. It would then be impossible to fill with the wrong fuel.

Fuelsure cap does the trick for us - if my wife can fill up with this device anybody can - she's blond too! All you have to do once you have used the diesel nozzle to release the cap is to manoeuvre it to one side so that you can get the hose in normally - no problem and good insurance against error.
