Missing a service

Featured Replies

I'm due to trade my car in for a VRS in the next few months. A trade in price has been agreed but yesterday I noticed I was missing a service so it's not exactly a FSH. Should I get the service done before trade in it just risk it?

Thanks.

Just get the oil changed and a stamp put in the book. I doubt they'll take more than a cursory glance at it...

The service costs £269 so I'm hoping to avoid it

Depends on whether you agreed it would have a full dealer service history or just a full service history.

If the latter, then get it done at the cheapest local independent garage you can find.

My local charges £45/hour compared to skoda's £65/hour.

We were going through a checklist such as metallic paint, sunroof, etc etc and FSH to which I replied yes! Woops ha

If you're worried about it, I'd ask them. If they say it needs to be done, get it done at a local place and save yourself a few quid.

OR

Forget about it and hope they won't notice...

I'd go with the latter to be honest - if they're upset about it, just knock the cost of a cheap service off the price.

ive got fab sport first service is up now told steve the sales bloke booked it in the he told leave it he said we will do it when we sell it

but the new roomster will take 14 weeks to cum

Ask the dealer what he thinks. Honesty now saves potential problems later.

Plus if the car is quite old does it really matter ?

Let us know what he says.

I just think telling the dealer will give them a green light for them to change the deal won't it?

I doubt they will change there mind if you tell them.

The way I look at it is, basically, they are in it for the sale at the end of the day.

The chances are missing one service in the whole life of the car is almost certainly not going to affect it's performance or reliability, unless it was a major service such as cam-belt, the usual things which tend to go pop, etc.

They want a sale out of you, and I doubt this will make them change their viewpoint if you tell them. It will probably be just "Oh right, yeah no problem that is fine"

The best way in my opinion would to be upfront and ask them.

Like others have mentioned, they are more likely to be funny with you if you try to hide it and they find out.
