Powerflex rear beam bushes

Don't know whether this has been covered, but as there are alot of people replacing various bushes thought I might pass on my experiences! When replacing the large rear beam axle bushes you will notice that the flange on the Skoda originals is chamfered, so that one bit of the flange protrudes more than the other bit! You should also notice that the thickest bit of this is should be nearest the bottom weld between the tube and the arm (notched to take the fixing for the handbrake cable). The Powerflex bushes also have a chamfered flange! Carefully measure the thickness and you find that it is at its thickest by the part no. moulded into the side (by the digit 8 in middle if memory is working)! Draw a line from this point to the centre of the hole in the bush. When inserting bush into "tube" this line should be pointing at the before mentioned notch!! This should then set up bush as per Skoda and as in Haynes manual! Also please remember to only hand tighten the nut and bolt so that they just touch the mounting bracket, then put wheels back on and lower car to ground. With car on all wheels open hatch and "bounce" car up and down from centre of hatch lower lip (this settles bushes). Then with car still on ground tighten up the bolts first to 45Nm then an additional 90 degree turn! (figures from Haynes).
