An cv joint problem?

Featured Replies

So, when I'm accelerating in ice theres a cracking noise from front of the car.

I know that you can check cv joints by turning wheel to maximum left and right sides, then if theres a cracking noise, cv joint should be changed. But my car don't produce any noise if I'm doing that.

Thanks.

Mine didn't do it either knew it was making a noise, was just gonna change the boot and re grease it but did the whole joint in the end as I thought some grit may have got into it.

Might be worth checking the arb bushes and suspension, sounds like something else to the CV joint which side is it making the noise from? Know when my CV joint was making a noise it was more when I was goin round a corner accelerating than going straight and I could clearly tell which side it was

I had a simalar problem with a friends car recently that was making a cracking noise when acelerating & braking & after much investigation i found it to be the wheel nuts not tight enough!I tightened them up & the noise went way! have your wheels been off lately?

Replacing my shafts the weekend as mines developed a rhythmic vibration.

It only happens on ice. Only when accelerating. And not all times. The sound is coming from left front wheel, I think. The sound is something between cracking and rubbing.

Maybe theres something wrong with me, not the car. (:

OK I think i will start with wheel nuts.

Oh on ice so it'll be the diff or traction control. My tc makes a noise at slow speed

yup it's your traction control mate.

My octy haven't got an traction control. There's no switch for it.

My guess is that your car has ABS with EDL (Electronic Differential Lock) and it is the EDL braking one of the wheels.

Is this system really possible on '97 Octavia non turbo? I know that these kind of systems are usually on cars with turbos or high torque.

Yes.

Take a look at the ABS unit. Unless the part number ends in 117 then you have EDL.
