Exhaust

Featured Replies

Due to the Impreziv system being a non CAT system I've had to pass up on it.:(

I was wondering whether anybody had any experience of other CAT systems apart from Milltek? I know Jabba do a Jetex system; do anyone have any info on this?

Also does anyone know the dimensions of the standard tail trim of the RS? A strange question perhaps but when I change my exhaust I kind of wanted something that looked different. The Jetex tail pipe is 85mm x 150mm oval which, kind of sounds the same size as the standard.

Cheers.

Adrian.

And another question (originally posted in Other Reviews but I thought it may get more attention here):

How much difference does a cat back system make (I'm assuming this means "from the cat, back", not "the cat, and back"). I would have thought the cat was the worst restriction in the whole system so gains from there back would be limited? If not - that's great - I'll be looking for one, although the other problem I have is I don't know if the mounts are the same on mine as an RS, so I may not have the same range of options ....

Another point to remember. you proberbly wont be able to put the oem exhaust back on, it is I believe a single continuous system that needs to be cut in half to fit the aftermarket jobbie on.

Sports cats are something approaching

Nick,

it replace the exhaust from the CAT to the rear box.

Your right in the that the CAT and down pipe are the most restrictive parts of the system. It would be better to replace these.

The CAT back does give some improvement; I think around 3-5bhp. To get the best out of it, ideally it should be replaced inconjunction with a remap. I also wanted the car to sound more purposful (not too loud though) and for the tail pipe design to be different (not too big or showy).

In looking at the Jetex site the are 2 different CAT back system,; one for the RS and another for the other 1.8T models. Now for you having your chipped I would assume that you could also have the RS designated one.

Stuart:

did ask Brian about their sports CAT. He said they only do custom ones for their turbo kits.

Cheers.

Adrian.

Hmmm - the Jetex prices look fairly steep for such a small gain - I will consider carefully ;)

I know what you're saying but I do think they are quite competitive when compared to the Milltek CAT back system;

Adrian - give your local Powerflow agent a ring, they can make you whatever you like - as loud or as quiet as you like - they wont make it lairy like my old one if you dont want it that way.

ScodiRS. I can reccomend the Jetex. I had it fitted at Bedrock VW in Motherwell. They are Scottish Distributers for Jetex, Jabba and few other worthy companies.

I had the Jetex fitted last week.

Personally I was more interested in some more noise than the standard, I also preferred the oval appearence. Its actually larger than the standard RS tailpipe which is kind of hard to see from the Jetex site or the photos.

If I had a Digital Camera I'd Post Pictures of it fitted but alas you may have to wait till the National Meet.

As far as the performance is concerned. I cant really give much in the way of figures, ive never been on the rolling road so I've no Idea how much power the car actually has.

Speed wise though It's definitely faster. On the road I use for testing i can get to 75 where i could only get to 70 before. Basically I just see what speed I can achieve before I get to a signpost .

The noise you get just after fitting is awesome however it only lasts a few days before it quiets down a bit, it still sounds really nice though.

Now where did I leave that money for a sports cat ???

Cheers Colin!

In the "Wheelin 'n dealin'" thread I posted an email I got back from Jetex stating only 2 of the Jetex systems have been bought; one from Jabba and the other from Bedrock. So yours is the Bedrock one; Cool!

I assume the the tail pipe sits nicely in the bumper cut out and, even though it's quietened down a bit now, it still sounds a bit rorty and purposeful?

I did some measurments regarding the tail pipe and the Jetex one will really fill the exhaust bumper cut out. Good stuff!

I'm having a remap at Jabba in a couple of weeks so will probably have the exhaust done at the same time.

Cheers.

Adrian.

The tail pipe sits about the same place as the original one, which looked fairly low to start with. So it's not right up next to the bumper cutout if thats what you mean.

I think the noise is fantastic from the outside. I had a friend drive the car a few days ago and it sounded really good standing next to it.

Man do I need a digital camera or what ?

Like I say it's more than just performance increase for the system; sound and looks as well. Mind you you have a porker so you'd just have to listen to a V8 as opposed to a inline 4.:D

Yes it's a V8 :D and yes it's quite loud :D

I've never heard anybody else drive it which is illustrated by the following snippet:

A man round the corner and up the street a little way has just bought a TVR (either a Griffith or a Chimaera - not sure). He went out last Saturday morning and accelerated off up the road - wifey and I were still in bed (well it was only about 9 am :p).

Says I - "now THAT'S loud!"

"No, no" says wifey, "The Porsche is louder than that, and it has a much deeper voice"

Now all I need is a volunteer to do a drive-by in mine for me.... volunteers?

has anyone modified the milltek system for more noise?

Thanks for that Colin; "sounds" good! My worries have now well and truly been put to rest.

Nick,

can just imaginre you accelerating up the hill on the A420 past Shrivenham; awesome sound!

Cheers.

Adrian.
