The drivers window squeals/squeaks/scrapes when going up and down.

I suspect there is some fine grit in the horizontal rubber seal strip.

How can I clean this ?

That sounds so unlikely it is almost certainly true.

The same logic doesn't always hold though, using tripe to clean the windscreen for instance doesn't work.

Not looking forward to explaining my new use of peanut butter to any onlookers although in many ways it would be even worse to be caught applying it surreptitiously.

Used to use peanut butter on all my octy mk1 black trim. Kept it looking great. I love the fact i no longer have loads of black plastic everywhere!

I've used a rather good Holts "rubber and plastic lubricant" aerosol, though having said that it seems a simple washing of the seals with water and shampoo works just as well.

Absolute worst thing is getting the smell of it on your hands -- personally I think it's the most revolting stuff anyone could ever want to eat! It's only good for cleaning cars with.

I don't have a problem with it (either on-car or eating!) but for you....
