Favorit Power Loss Headache

Featured Replies

Now Ive posted in the right forum I might see what joy I get here.

Skoda Favorit Est LXiE, 94 M reg, 13200 miles (yes, immaculate in white too), is loosing all throttle power when up to operating temperature.

Starting fine, idles perfectly sewing machine style, runs perfectly and does all things I ask of it and more, dual carriageway etc no problem at speed.

HOWEVER, problem starts only at operating temperature when either,

1) accelerating away from when at stop from a juction, or

2) accelerating from a slow tight bend, or

3) slowing for a junction from when at normal speed.

All of the above happens when under say 35 mph. Can sometimes start again immediately, when first realised the problem needed multiple efforts to start but i suspect it was only until the car had cooled enough to allow it. When starts it is running perfectly as before until 5 miles down the road when it decides to do it again!!! :swear:

All temp guages etc reading normal. It has an immobliser but that works fine.

Work thus far:

New coil, new spark plugs, rotor arm, crank shaft sensor. VW sepcialist tried diagnostics using flash code but no information there. :wall:

I will now replace the fuel pump relay, if this doesnt sort it it has to go unless somebody, anybody, can diagnose the problem. Bosch diagnostics will cost £200, throwing money down the drain if they cannot provide solution.

Im at my wits end, can anybody help? :(

This is a complete stab in the dark as I have no knowledge of the favorite at all and I'm still learning when it comes to mechanics in general. When I got my felly it had similar symptoms but not as extreme. I discovered my throttle body was caked inside with nasty old oily carbon deposits. After a bit of spray lube and good rub down (in place) it completely solved my issues.

Yep throttle body clean and valve clearance adjustment.

try another coil on it mate, they have the internal amp which overheats and can cause the same symptoms. same as most vw coils so plenty about in scrappys etc.

I'm not sure if Favorits had coil packs

OP says they have tried a new coil though.

Other things to try might be redex, or on such low mileage there's something you can get called "Wynn's dry fuel" which absorbs moisture in the fuel tank and allows it to be burned.

Fuel filter?

OP says they have tried a new coil though.

Doh yea that will teach me posting after a 20 hour day lol..

fuel pump maybe? they used to go wrong pretty often or blocked breather to the tank.. try running it round with the fuel cap off maybe to see if that helps?
