Adding auto-fold wing mirrors

Featured Replies

Is it possible/realistic to add auto-folding wing mirrors to my pre-FL scout?

Is it just a case of changing the folding mechanism or is some playing with VCDS needed?

thanks for any advice...

I think they will work without coding, although your current door controller must support that function. Also if they have the surround lighting that would need to be coded

current mirrors have puddle lights and indicatiors in them.

Just thought that getting a switch to ocntrol them would be a hurdle...

Try the switch, i Retrofitted them to my golf, as soon as I tried them they worked without any coding to the door controller

Surely you'll need wing mirrors with motors in them?

I don't think I've ever seen a pre-FL with folding mirrors?

Reckon it'll be more than just coding...

There is no coding, unless the door controllers are GEN 3

He should try the switch before buying anything.

That's what I was expecting. def no motors in the mirrors (other than glass angle adjusters) at the moment so will be hardware rather than just software changes.

'I don't think I've ever seen a pre-FL with folding mirrors?'

is this the case? If it is, I guess it's a no-go

I have looked on the parts program there are electric folding versions

A quick search revealed that on the facelift Octavia it is thought that the wiring in to the doors is different for folding and non-folding wing mirrored cars.

It also revealed that folding mirrors were available on the pre-FL but not in the UK?

I guess the starting point would be to try and determine if the motors required to fold the mirrors are built in to the mirror regardless of specification and can therefore be enabled on those cars which didn't leave the factory with this feature.

My guess would be that be due to cost they won't and therefore to have this feature would require new mirrors, maybe new wiring and a lot of work...

Someone with a fully specced pre-FL L&K should be able to offer more help...

The door controller sends the signal to the mirror motor to fold. This is down 2 wires from the door controller to the mirror housing.

The wires on my mirror to fold are Blue-(Pin 15) & Purple-(pin14)
