Fabia II VRS fuel/power/MPG

Featured Replies

I know the question of whether the new vRS should be run on super unleaded as opposed to reg has been addressed many times through the forum. Also the potential loss of power/MPG if its run at all on 95RON.

Just thought i'd start the debate again as I ve sent a number of e-mail around the topic to SKODA UK who have now replied.

1. I asked them if the car should be run entirely on super unleaded or if normal could be used sometimes/continually without any damage to the engine. They replied with:

"Dear Mr ..... I refer to your e-mail dated the 7th February 2011 regarding the new Skoda Fabia vRS. I have received confirmation from Product Marketing that the Fabia vRS can run on both unleaded fuel types. I hope this information is of assistace to you. Kind regards"

2. I followed up by asking what power loss and MPG loss could be expected (if any) if the car was run on regular unleaded to which they replied:

"I refer to your futrther enquiry regarding the unleaded petrol for the new Fabia vRS. I have been advised by Product Marketing that Skoda Technical have confirmed that there is a negligible loss of BHP and economybut, unfortunately no figures are provided. We do not however believe there would be a noticeable difference. I hope this information is sufficient for your purposes. Kind regards"

Interesting eigh?

So what do you think. Are skoda right? Can the vRS be run on Reg with virtually no power/econemy loss and no damage to the car?

Or perhaps they dont really know and have replied just to shut me up????

Thoughts please.

Not to be unfair, but this topic really has been done to the death. Believe it's covered in another thread where some of the Forum's best have made their opinion.

Yeah .... fair enough!

Hi FOX1429,

I'm actually glad you've posted this as its evidence from Skoda UK themselves that the use of 95 RON fuel in a vRS is not a problem.

Some people on the forums seem to think that permanent use of 95 RON fuel will eventually cause catastrophic engine damage to a vRS and am aware that a number of Ibiza Cupra owners have blamed 95RON fuel also. Frankly I think their problems have been down to bad luck more than anything, build defects, use of bad quality fuel etc etc.

There is a VW technician training doc knocking around that confirms the use of 95 RON fuel will reduce low end torque output but that is all.

Fair shout to you for finding out, hopefully this will put the matter to bed.

maybe 95 ron gives 178bhp as quoted, but 99 will give the 195bhp shown on some rollers? v-power deisel was worth 7bhp in the tuned fiat.. (verified on the same rollers, with no other changes than fuel)
