Fabia VRS Remap

Featured Replies

Hi Members,

I have a 2005 FABIA VRS. i am considering a remap to increase BHP to approx 170. I just wanted to know how much different the car will feel after and is it worth the money.

Also does anyone know of a good remap specialist in the Bristol area.

Thanks.

It'll make a big difference, just watch the clutch and turbo - warm it up nicely and don't floor it if revs below 2k rpm and it'll be fine.

Had a remap on my Ibiza FR TDI, went well :)

Not just BHP you need to watch, torque will go up a fair bit.

In Bristol I would drive 90 minutes to P-torque in Wolverhampton or about 2 hours to Unit 18 in Wellingborough. Alternatively, Shark Performance do the STS box that they send you in the post and you remap the car yourself. This has the massive benefit that you can put the car back to standard youself and I think you can also immobilize the car as well.

don't floor it if revs below 2k rpm

Eh? Can you explain?

Is that to be nice to the clutch or what? I've never heard of that before.

Think he just means to preserve clutch life etc.

I'd recommend a software map instead of a plug in one.

Those plug in obd port remind me of the resistor mod

Burn your clutch out as the torque rises rapidly to a spike around 2000rpm then it tails off. A remap will push the limits of a standard clutch so you haven't got to nail it under 2000rpm.

You mean the STS units? They are a software map. Everyone transfers the software through the OBDC port, the STS just gives you your own tool to do it. Tuning boxes (and there are some very good ones now) plug into the wiring loom (usually on the MAF sensor line) and can only change a couple of parameters. Resistor mods permanently change one parameter.

The STS (and the Revo, Superchips and Viezu equivalents) are all proper remaps, not tuning boxes or resistor mods.

Shark perfromance offer a popular fabia vrs remap. the remaps completely open up the engine potential. The engine revs a lot further than the usual 3.5 where it usually tails off. Iv seen an increase in fuel consumption with mine too which is always a bonus.

As the guys have pointed out, if the car is warmed up properly and cooled down after a spirited drive, and your careful to not give it too much below 2k then you should be fine, iv done 15k on a standard clutch with the remap and the clutch has now done 100k+ so if you just do little things to preserve your clutch and turbo you should be fine mate.

The STS is also available to tune your car from home and read fault codes, saves you driving to mansfield if you chose a shark performance map.

Cheers, Elliott

Or did he mean increase due to driving spiritedly more often?

It also reduces the strain on the dual-mass flywheel, for those who haven't already converted to single-mass.

oooppps my bad. Fuel consumption is definitly better now, cheers for pointing that out mate :)

Yup, even with my sachs clutch i still have to wait before flooring it, the flywheel will **** itself lol

Matt

REVO do a good 170bhp in Exeter. Matt is a spot on chap (Volkscraft, Swallow Court, Marsh Barton, EXETER), they do the free trial (24 driving hours I think) I had mine done at christmas and theres a nice progressive power delivery, bit of a spike at 3.5k revs just to remind you its there! Get a good one and your clutch will be fine, just don't get into a habit of racing between the red lights.
