Is this laptop where you usually find your library?

restore from a back-up ... have u updated itunes recently ? ive had it before after an update .. even saying " ipod not sync'd with this device " and need to format !!!

i have a software package called copytrans which is very good and cheap and i keep for such emergencies

Hi. If you have lost the media that you downloaded from iTunes all is not lost. Check the apple support site if you think it happened after an iTunes update. If your media has gone, and is not just hidden, then you can contact apple and they will allow you to download it again for free. This facility is little known and is only available once or twice a year per account. It is designed to cover computers dying etc. Good luck.

if the itunes music folder is empty in explorer, then the only way to get the music back is restore from backup. You can re-download purchased stuff, but stuff you ripped yourself must be restored.

Thanks for the replies :) Have just spoken to itunes support and they say the same thing!!.....Purchased stuff can be re downloaded for free but the stuff that i put on myself will have to be done again...but then under hushed tones he said get yourself "itunes rip" for free off the net and use that :)......so wish me luck as today il give it a go !!;)

right that plan hasnt worked!!..two of the downloads wont recognise my ipod and one will only let me copy 100 tracks before it wants thirty quid!!...Does anyone know of a good free one that actually works?

Cheers

Not ideal, but depending on how big the library is you can un/reinstall those programs 3 times I think to get songs off the iPods. Then just do it on a couple of machines. Not ideal though!

that would work but there are over four thousand tunes on my ipod!!...might just have to start all over agin and be done with it!!

copy trans comes in a trial format with a time limit .... get the software then let copy trans put ur ipod music from ur ipod to itunes as it can load it straight to itunes

Have just downloaded that one and thought i was on to a winner but like all the rest it will do the first 100 tracks or so then want you to buy the full version!!...might just susck it up and pay the $19 and get it over and done with!!

paying £19 or £30 must be a lot less hassle than re-ripping umpteen CD's which will take a lot of hours.
