Replacement Key Charge

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I own a 2002 Octavia. Yesterday I misplaced my car keys and I couldn't find it. I don't have a spare key either (Doh !!!). Any idea how much Skoda dealer would charge for a replacement key? Is there any alternates to bypass dealer and get a key cut and configure remote locking code?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Have you got the number off the keys written down in your manual or on that little ingot you get with the keys? If not you could ring the supplying dealer if they have the code stored? You could then just get 2 keys made up and coded . Otherwise you will have to have ALL new locks and have them coded , over a £100!! sorry?:thumbup:

The remote locking code is the least of your problems. A basic non remote key is around £40, a remote key is similar in price but you'll need to add another £40 or so for the remote control part, prices are approximate and you'll need to add VAT.

The complication arises in the logistics. A dealer will cut you a key from the number that's on Skodas vehicle records, however if it's had a replacement lock set in the past, then it won't fit. If you get a key that fits, great, if you haven't got the immobiliser login code (SKC) the car won't start and it will have to be transported to a dealer or a specialist capable of programming the key to the immobiliser. If you've got the SKC, I believe that there is a way of entering it into the dash panel via the buttons which will release the immobiliser for 45 minutes, enabling you to drive to a dealer.

The dealers cannot get the SKC and don't see it when they program keys as it's done through a computer link to the factory.

I'm quite sure that there isn't a way to program the keys without turning them in the ignition of the car.

Thanks folks, for your response. I spoke to the Skoda dealer and told them I've not changed the factory fitted lock. The dealer is going to order a replacement key but, since I don't have the immobiliser code, I had been asked to bring the car to their garage. The total comes around 145£, for replacement key, coding the remote etc. ;o(

Thanks again.
