Lost Faith In Dealer - Thinking Of Cancelling Order

Featured Replies

I have an Octavia VRS Diesel DSG on order & the build week has slipped to 20.

The sole reason I ordered in late November was because the sales manager advised it to guarantee a March delivery (this was to coincide with my lease car return).

Armed with the information gained from this forum & SUK customer services I spoke to the dealers regarding an 'after sale vehicle'. The salesman told had little knowlegde of the ASVs & told me that as a dealership they didn't provide them. I impressed the fact that SUK have told me that I'm entitled to one if there is one available & I was giving fair notice as the week 18 trigger isn't until April.

A few days passed & I'd heard nothing from the dealers so I paid them a visit to clarify matters as it was looking as though I was to be without a car for the next three months.

The salesman confirmed that as a dealership they do not use ASVs only the payment scheme & he produced the SUK document on the subject. I read it & pointed out that it clearly said 'payment or ASV' & I needed a car if there was one available. He maintained that they do not have the cars & have never had after sale vehicles, they only use the payment scheme.

I then contacted SUK & they told me that the dealer should offer a car if there was one available. SUK contacted the dealers & spoke to the sales manager on my behalf. He confirmed that they do provide ASVs but have none available at the moment - a complete contradiction from what I was told moments earlier in the showroom.

SUK recommened I hold on until my 18 weeks to see what car the dealer offers, however given that the salesman has stated that they do not offer cars at all I think I know what the answer will be come April.

I'm now considering the possibilty of cancelling the order. I'm losing faith dealer that has contradicted himself & lied, I feel he may just be appeasing SUK.

I would ask what the dealer manager and all the sales staff are driving, I would think they should be giving these up to help you out.

I'd ask skoda to allow you to transfer the order to another dealer of your chosing as you're not happy to complete the deal with that dealer.

Sure somebody can recommend one in your area and something could be arranged over the deposit.

Contact SUK and tell them you are cancelling unless you receive (written) confirmation that you will be supplied with a vehicle to use whilst waiting for delivery of your new car. They have a fleet of demo/press cars and should easily be able to arrange one to be available

I'd have thought the least they would do is pay the charges for any (reasonable) rental car of your choice till yours turns up.

Though, having said that, I wouldn't want to be with such an unhelpful dealer

Thanks for the replies

Have to admit I was pretty angry when I left the dealers, didn't really expect the 'couldn't give a toss' attitude & lies from the salesman.

Hopefully I will paythe dealers another visit tomorrow, sit down with the manager & sort it out...which is what I expected to do yesterday. The result of that will determine what I do next :dull:

At least you have a build week ... for now anyway.

I ordered a Scout TDi on 22nd Nov but the build week vanished off the system a few weeks ago. I was prepared for a 26 week wait when I ordered but the build week vanishing isn't promising - I should try and forget about it and let the time pass but I'm excited about getting the Scout and hate the waiting.

I called SUK customer Services today to ask what lead time they were currently experiencing and she said on Scouts ordered now they are advising a wait of 6-9 months! I hope that 9 months doesn't apply to me and the 6 months I was expecting is the maximum I'll have to wait.

Im with the course of action about transferring the order to another dealer, if you are getting all this carp now even before the car arrives, what will it be like once it arrives.

If you do not get any satisfaction, name & shame dealer

Its bad enough having to wait ( thats not the dealers fault ) , but if the dealer is uncooperative / doesnt care, then it taints the whole experience once (for what is a good car) arrives.

Good luck with your meeting.

Met with the dealer sales manager today - a major change in opinion & attitude.

He carefully explained about the delays, what they as a dealer can provide and accepted that perhaps my situation is unique as most people trade in or have another car they are driving.

No side stepping the issue, simply up front & dealt with it properly which was quite refreshing given my experience a few days earlier.

Ultimately he guaranteed that they will provide me with a car when my 18 weeks trigger

Quite why the salesman thought it would be wise to try & 'pull the wool' is beyond me, buts it looks like its sorted now

Thanks for the all the advice offered, if it wasn't for the folks on here I wouldn't have known about the availability of the after sale vehicles

Quick update regarding this episode.

Well I had a guarantee from the sales manager that I would have a car by week 18.....well as week 20 approaches I'm still waiting :wonder:

I've visited the show room twice, last time being yesterday asking about the ASV...'don't worry sir, he isn't in today but I have called him & I'll raise it at the morning meeting'

I'm still waiting for a call :dull:

What is really starting annoy more than the fact that they simply cannot get their act together is that I have made all the running, in 20 weeks I have not received a call or email from the dealers barring two returned calls regarding delivery dates before Xmas.

I get the impression the dealer would be happy for me to cancel; they could sell the car for £4k more than I paid & I had the 0%, getting the impression its almost in their interest to show me door.

Think I will speak to Skoda UK Monday & see if I can switch dealer.

Ah but did he say by week 18 of ordering the car, or by week 18 of 2011 (beginning of May)

More than likely - I had exactly the same response .... or lack of!

Ah but did he say by week 18 of ordering the car, or by week 18 of 2011 (beginning of May)

Bit misleading this, 18 weeks on from purchase which was 2nd April

Very frustrated i can understand. Ordered my L&K 2.0 cr DSG on 16th Nov and promised 20 weeks. Thought my luck in when in Dec 2nd they said BW3. Mid Dec changed to week 6 then in Jan no BW as it was suspended. March went to dealer and told BW 21. Last week rang dealer and told that again BW not available suspended yet again.Would cancel but the L&K is worth waiting for as they have said that they will honor the p/x price they gave me

I am in a similar boat, ordered Scout mid December AND TRADED IN DSG GOLF at that time. Borrowed a banger from friend to tide me over. Given delivery estimate of May.

Now been told to realistically expect Sept/Oct for delivery!!!!!! Offered a courtesy car from May until Sept/Oct which I must insure myself. Insurance company refuse to insure courtesy car for that long and state no other insurance company will either as a courtesy car should only be on loan for a week or two whilst own car is repaired.

Also, as I planned to transfer the banger insurance to the Scout and cannot now do this, I have been hit with a £154 bill to cancel the banger insurance which needs to go back to its owner in May.

I believe that it is in the dealers interest for me to cancel the deal in order to keep the car that I ordered to sell on to someone else with 20% VAT instead on 0%VAT deal I have secured. A BIG differance to the dealer I suspect.

I was thinking of starting a FACEBOOK page entitled "Guess the delivery date of the Skoda Scout" which I could run from my laptop whilst sitting outside the dealers with a placard stating my case.

Salesman is adamant he is the middleman in this **** up. Is ten months reasonable for a vehicle delivery, or is breach of contract feasable? I lost out by trading in my Golf for below book private sale price, for the Scout is that and my £500 deposit lost?

Salesman says my case is one of the 3 worst in Britain and he has been to the "Top Man at Skoda UK about it" net result............. potential 10 month wait.

Personally I just think its a joke, I have ordered a VRS nearly two weeks ago, I am not bothered when it is delivered, to be honest the later in the year the better, however, the way a lot of you have been treated on this forum and lead times they are expecting you to wait is just a joke! I understand that the brand etc is becoming very popular and is great value for money, but if they cant supply the cars within a reasonable time frame why are they continuing to give offers and incentives for people to order? I know it looks good on the order book and they can predict income and manage the factory accordingly but to be expecting people to wait 10 months for a car is a joke, its not some custom hand made car for christ sake is it, its just a production line car!!!!

Surely you can insure it as you would a lease car? Ie it isn't a car owned by you....I am sure that a broker would be able to advise you better.

I am led to believe the AA is a broker?

I am not paying for the loan car and as such it is not contracted as a lease vehicle.

It is owned by someone else and loaned too me FOC.

The "old banger" was loaned too me and the AA could not find an insurer for me, hence I "took ownership" of the old banger which I can return at the end of the "loan" period.

hmmm interesting one...Perhaps get the dealer to sort the insurance out on their policy and try and hold/freeze your own insurance until you get the car.

Will see what they have to say on Tuesday. Frustrating as walking away would be easy enough but as I said, I would lose out on the trade in from my Golf. I would have couple of grand left as deposit for a new vehicle, but what would I buy? I am also acutely aware that the dealership would be happier for me to walk away, as they would make on the new car when it is eventually delivered.

I will wait until Tuesday to see what is happening, then an email to Skoda UK to see if they are all singing from the same hymn sheet.

Wonder if breach of contract is feasable? I have free legal advice by virtue of my work. That could be my next step........ re-coup my losses, and never go back to Skoda again.

I have certainly had a very bad experiance with my first ever brand new car................

What a nightmare i dont see how this is being allowed to happen to just about every customer i think someone like watchdog would be good to approach with these numbers etc and the random delay times they might be up for confronting skoda or VAG in general about this
