Fabia front end squeak/creaking

Featured Replies

The front end on the wife's mk 1 1.4mpi creaks, sort of squeaks. Dont think its the suspension as if you push wings down there is no sign of the noise. My thoughts are towards an engine mounting as the car is very jumpy when changing gear or when taking foot off accelerator. also thinking anti roll bar rubbers? Anyone had this sort of noise?

I've got a similar creak going on. I'm assuming it's the console bushes but it might well be something else. Going to get the console bushes swapped out in a week or two and see if it sorts out the noise.

Yep, console bushes, drop links, ARB bushes.

all of them ? can they be lubed with silcine spray ? the noise doesnt seem so bad when road conditions are wet

Listed them in order of likely culprits.

Aye mine are bad when dry, but when wet you don't really hear anything. I think I'll get the console bushes and ARB bushes done then if it's still there I'll do the droplinks when I get coilovers.

i get the same problem ! i thought it was my wishbone !

I had squeaks on my VRS. A good douse of silicone spray on the console bushes has indeed done the trick for me. It is caused by the muck and salt on the roads during the winter months. Although potholes dont help much either.

As mentioned, console bushes sound likely.

I've just bought a VRS with the same problem, half the nearside bush has disintegrated & probably fell out halfway down the A1 on Sunday! I am quoted £150 to sort it.

Mine always seems to creak when wet. Not dry. All summer it will be nice and quiet then when the damp weather comes back it'll some terrible again.

Just had it serviced, cambelt and water pump and 4 new tyres so it'll have to wait anyway.

I'd also say console bushes - mine started as a squeeky creak in the wet about 3 months ago, along with random clunks and clicks, gradually developed into constant clattering over even small bumps. Silicone spray would cure the squeeking for a few weeks but not the clattering (obviously). As already suggested, both console bushes had deteriorated, replaced them today and also fitted new drop links (they are only £15 a pair) and now it's all quiet and lovely again :-) The bushes cost me around £9 each from the local Seat dealer and I bought the proper Sealey VAG bush removal/fitting tool for just under £80 online. So all in I spent just over £100 and changed the lot and still have the tool. Local garage quoted me around £150 to do both bushes (but not the droplinks).

Mate, if you see my post I don't suppose you'd be willing to post up info on the proper bush installation tool? I was planning on trying to machine up a proper one as a project and need some sizes and info/pics if possible.

I have just paid a local garage to replace my console bushes, which I supplied, having decided to go for the Cupra ones. The labour times that I was quoted varied from 3 hours to 1 1/2 hours from a trusted garage. Total cost to fit and check all the other suspension and steering bushes cam to £90 inc the VAT :). The difference is remarkable.

  • 3 months later...

I had this exact same noise, squeaking when driving but not in the wet. Changed the console bushes and the noise is gone.

To those having this squeaking issue, was it a continual noise or was it only when applying gas or say changing gear when the motion of the car slowing and then powering forward would cause a squeak? Trying to get to the bottom of mine! Bushes are relatively new but they may need greasing. However as I only get it when changing gear or applying gas I'm thinking it's a worn rear suspension bush or engine mount. Hmmm

Greasing the console bushes usually stops the squeaking/ creaking. I done this to my old vrs but the noise always returns after a few weeks. I also changed the dogbone mount as this was creaking too.

Console bushes squeak.

ARB bushes rattle, the drop links sort of clunk. I've done the lot, the ride is quiet at last.

But now I can hear the dash rubbing slightly against the base of the windscreen, ARRRGGGHH WILL IT NEVER END!
