Bubbling Lacquer on Alloys?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

The other day I noticed that the wheel lacquer on the middle of one of the spokes on the rear wheel we showing signs of discolouration. Upon further investigation - namley bending over :giggle: I noticed that the lacquer was actually coming away from the base metal and had formed a blister like bubble! No break in the outer skin of the lacquer so it looks like a manufacturing fault. As there is NO damage to the wheel whatsoever.

I took it to the garage earlier today and they confirmed it will be covered under warranty! - no questions asked; apart from the guy having a quick look himself.

So note to all with the Dark Chrome alloys on your vRS, keep an eye on them!

similar thing happened with alot of Golf GTI's which had monza alloys.

Same as the Octavia Scout wheels

Have you gone for the dark chrome alloys again? Was wondering if you weren't happy with them could you ask for another pair under warranty for example some White ones.

Hi there,

I have exactly the same problem with all 4 dark chromes. It is on the spokes, around wheel bolt holes and on 1 wheel it is around the centre cap. Car is only two weeks old. Up early tomorrow morning to visit my local dealer for a wee chat. My car is candy white and is stunning on these wheels, will have them replaced once, if it happens again maybe Skoda customer services will get a call.

Cheers

A recurring problem for most painted chrome wheels,in time they all tend to bubble and peel better just going for the standard alloy's

Just an update for this, I am getting one of my wheels replaced tomorrow through the warranty, but am getting another one replaced due to some kerb damage. I was quoted at about £170 odd quid just for the ONE wheel (plus about £7.50 to swap the tyre over) This was when I spoke to my dealer the other day. The car goes in tomorrow - Thursday and just out of interest I took a look on Skoda UK website and found this...

http://www.accessories.skoda.co.uk/productdetail.aspx?p_no=5J0071496B - Meaning the wheel is only £136 INCLUDING VAT

Surely the garage trying to charge me the £170 odd quid is trying to pull a fast one?

Your opinions will be greatly received!
