Nokia 6700 Slide mobile phone

Featured Replies

Having just got off the phone to Vodafone trying to sort out swmbo's phone bill.

To put it short she got an upgrade 2 months back and opted for the Nokia 6700 Slide on a £15 per month contract. However the first bill came in at £42 and just had the latest bill at £36. Shocked to say the least, as it doesn't get used that often. So I looked into her bill on line and immediately spotted the the data aspect of the bill was doubling the cost per month. It was logging itself onto the internet everyday without fail at midnight to perform software updates and other various checks. Toatally shocked. Vodafone explantation is that it is a nature of the phone that it does this to update itself. So after saying that we wern't happy and that never has a mention of this been made at the time of the contract they agreed to waive 50% of the charges and send me details of how to block it from accessing the web again.

So including this and the fact that it frezzes a lot and does other strange things I can report that it is a total load of crap.

SWMBO has had one for about a year now without problems

She is also on Vodafone ... looks like you need to change some settings (SWMBO never had to though) and you have a duff phone maybe?

Ah, I don't suppose you could advise which setting to change in order for it to stop connecting to the internet then. I have a feeling this may help it out and then I can always use it as my work phone.

I've never had the 6700 none slide do that on orange or any other nokia, so one could think that Voda are not being strictly truthful there.

IIRC you can in the options turn off the data so it is only on when you set it on rather than on demand.

Found teh same problem when I got my Android on a Tesco PAYG. No free data in the tarrif so it quickly scarfed my credit. I found an app to block data over the GPRS/3G connection and only use the house Wifi for data now.

I think Nokia has its own version of the app store there may be an APN blocker app you can use.
