VRS Wheels and Tyres - problems

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Took the alloys off the car before the winter and stored them in the garage. Started to clean them today for putting back on next weekend.

I have noticed that the coating has started to bubble on the wheels wheich are only 14 months old.

The tyres I have mentioned in other threads - Dunlop SportMaxx GT - they were on the back and are sawtoothed but I didn't realise how bad they were until I cleaned the wheels today.

The outside edge still has a good 5 or 6 mm to go but the inside has about 1 mm and there is a lip right round the tyre.

I had the car into the dealers about the tyres before the winter but they said SUK ould not pay for replacements. They did however adjust the rear geometry. I still felt that the car was not just right so I got the 4 wheel geometry done at a specialist and all 4 wheels were out including the rear that had been done a couple of weeks before.

I assume SUK will not be wanting to replace the tyres but where do I stand on the blistering wheels?

I mate of mine had the same on his 2 week under 3 year old Mazda just before the winter and Mazda replaced all 4 wheels no problem.

Are the Skoda wheels covered for the full 3 years?

Does anyone have an email address for SUK so I can add my weight to the sawtoothing problem?

Cheers

Dave

Can't see you having any problems getting them replaced as I had three wheels replaced on my Scout due to the dreaded delam problem. Get it done before the warranty expires though as I've got another with the same problem, not sure if it's one of the newer wheels or the one that wasn't changed, but they won't replace it as the car is now 4 months past the warranty expiry date.

I have seen a lot of threads recommending repainting of wheels on here too so if things don't pan out with your dealer then you could always get the wheels professionally done again (blasted, powder coated etc) and as a bonus choose whatever colour if you wanted to be slightly different. I think Skoda will change them for you though.

Pointed out my chipped alloys at my service and was told that Skoda wouldn't look at them as a warranty claim. The wheels have never been kerbed and the chips were on the spokes of the alloys. Took them in today to get blasted and powder coated in anthracite, which includes the whole wheel and not just the outer face as at present. not been impressed with the toughness of finish of the original.
