Drivers door lock

Featured Replies

Hi alll I'm new to the scene after treating myself to a octavia vrs on a 54 plate with 59000 on the clock.

I'll start from the begging but could do with some advice. It started with the rear electric windows the drivers door control unit would bring them down but not up, the drivers door stopped locking and unlocking so I decided to investigate which brought me to this website. So after lots of reading I've cleaned the clip that collects water in the drivers door an sprayed with wd40 there was no rusty pins which was good :-) and electric windows started working which was even better..... So I looked to the drivers lock and the red light no longer flashes. So after more reading the only thing was a faulty door lock so £99 + vat later and a hour changing it still not working. I must say with the new lock fitted there was still no red light flashing but when I unplugged the new lock the light flashed?????

Please help I've looked high and low but everyone seems to have fixed there's by cleaning the clip or changing the lock. I know there is a convenience unit under the dash could this be the problem or would that stop all the doors locking? Also I've checked the joint between the door and the car and there's no broken cables

Thanks in advance

Dan

Dan,

I can't be of much help here as I am in the same boat as you and have replaced everything in the door. Lock, control unit & loom. I've got the same symptoms as you and have reached a dead end. The only thing I can think of now is the central convenience unit in the dash. After that, I'll be totally stumped. Maybe you could head down that line?

Hi thanks for your reply as in control unit you have changed do you mean the window regulator in the door? As that was my next option. The control unit I think it might be is the 1 under the dash behind the steering wheel could you tell me if you have tried changing this? If not I'll try that next but im stuck wat I really wanna know is does the control unit control alll the doors separate for the 1 door not to unlock?

The electronics for the door lock and flashing LED are part of the control box that is an integral part of the windows motor. My guess is that if you replace the windows motor, the problem will be solved.

Press the lock/unlock buttons on the driver armrest. Do all the doors except that one lock and unlock?

Hi thanks for your reply yes if I push that button all doors except the drivers lock an unlock, in the previous reply a guy with the same problem has said he changed that and still no luck could it be the convenience unit under that dash or would that stop all doors?

Thanks dan

I've changed the regulator in the door, but that didn't cure mine. I've got a good working unit that I was going to sell if you were going to buy one anyway. As for the unit under the dash, I'm not entirely sure if it could fail in part, isolating just one door lock. If so, we could both be looking for the same part. :D

I'll have a ring around tomorrow see how much a new unit is I don't think I've got many choices left if you have done all the known issues, don't know anyone who I could borrow 1 off just to try it??

This shows that the communications between the door and the CCU are intact and the CCU is working (otherwise the other doors would not have locked/unlocked).

This is a very common fault. The part of the unit that controls the door lock burns out. Often, all the other functions keep working.

Could you explain in a bit more detail please are you say everythin works like the windows etc but all the doors don't lock or unlock or is it possible for 1 door not to lock or unlock?

Thanks for the help so far

Do you have a thread active for your fault? If so then please post a link and I'll try to diagnose your problem.

The driver's door lock doesn't work, but everything else controlled by the unit attached to the driver side window motor is OK.

We know in your case that the comms to the CCU are OK, the logic for the armrest switches are OK, the window is OK and I would guess the mirror motors/heater work too. Usually, it is only the part of the circuit that controls the door lock motor burns out. The control unit attached to the window motor is not available separately, so you to replace the motor. It must be the exact same part number.

Each window motor has its own controller attached and these are OK with the exception of the one in the driver's door.

Excellent thanks for your help would you recommend buying a new unit or find a working 2nd hand unit

And by ccu do u mean the unit in the door or under the dash?

Thanks dan

Given that a new driver's window motor (which includes the attached control unit) is about £175, I suggest that you find a second hand unit. It must be a driver's window motor with the same part number, otherwise it won't talk to the CCU.

Look for someone on here who is breaking a car the same as yours.

I thought I'd update because not many people come back to help others :-)

Problem is alll sorted now I took it to skoda which I hate doing because I'm very confident on doing the work myself but it was 1 of 3 things wrong with it.

So I changed the door lock and still no luck (I don't think there wasn't anything wrong with the 1 I had on but it was 1 of the 3 things to change)

So I took it to skoda to narrow it down they changed the window regulator and 4 cables going to the window regulator or just changed the ends I think but its all back to normal now.

I dunno if they have improved the new regulators to stop the water getting in but I think I might wrap it in something myself to protect it.

Last thing does anyone have a alarm wiring diagram for a 54 plate octavia vrs all I'm really after is the lock an unlock colours and I've heard the unlock needs a resistor is this the case? But I can work out the rest just unsure on this. And do u know if it's normally open or normally closed as these are the 4 other cables I got

Thanks dan
