powder coat alloys

Featured Replies

hi,

ordered a new white vrs petrol.

quite fancy getting the windows tinted and alloys coated anthracite.

that is all i would do on it when it arrives. have asked the dealer to get me prices for this, how much do you guys reckon it should be for these 2 things to be done or does anyone recommend somewhere in scotland better to go to yourself?

also can someone send me a link to a vid of a new vrs petrol, just wonder what the engine note sounds like on the new model unmodified. test drove a diesel.

cheers

Sure west end said it was about 160 for the tints as for the wheels would be interested in that myself.

Someone here recommended Kilmarnock Powder Coating. I plan to drop some off with them when I next take my bike on a trailer to Jim Allan's. Would be interested in hearing/seeing what their finish is like if you get it done.

Hi, I got my windows tinted by Andy at Magma in Uphall - he charged me £170 to do the rear windows on each side + the back window, and put a 6" 'sunband' on the top of the windscreen.

Stevie Walkers bodyshop has quoted me just shy of £300 to do my wheels in whatever shade I want them in, thats doing them properly with the tyres removed, inner and outer wheel painted then the tyres back on & re-balanced. Stevie is in Bathgate, West Lothian.

thanks guys, i will see what dealer comes back with but at least i know what to expect and know they are not trying to do me out of money.

if magma are in uphall then that would be ideal for the tints, did he do a good job?

how long does it take to get the tints and wheels done?

when you say wheels painted, i read on another post about painting as opposed to powder coating, is the guy in bathgate painting or powder coating and what is better to have done?

thanks again guys

Mine are painted, face only, cost 188 quid (but reading, so no good for you in scotland).

Powerder coat is generaly accepted to be a harder wearing finish.

Yes Magma did a good job, I have used him for window tints for years now. He needed my car for almost a full day.

I haven't had my wheels done (yet) but the bodyshop quoted two full days. The bodyshop I use would be painting them, but there is a company approx. 200 yards from Magma called RM Coatings who can do the powder coating. Never used them so can't vouch for the quality of the work etc.

i like the wheels like that. i will have a look around scotland but also see what dealer quotes. as long as it is not crazy quotes from them lol.

does the candy white come with black wing mirrors or did you put them on?

cheers

I got my wheels done anthracite and windows tinted pre-delivery by West End Skoda in Uphall. Can't fault either, both are top class jobs.

Anthracite on against white looks great, and as i'm discovering, hides the dirt!

Costs i can't remember exactly but ~£160 for tints and wheels, i'd need to check but it was cheaper than my local body shop. Quality of the work is v good which is more important really.

thanks again

I added the black mirror caps - these are just unpainted ones from a base model so matt black like my roof rails. Two minute swap over - I prefer the look.

The car has the factory tints (sunset glass) and its -36mm on weitecs. The wheels are BMW A22 "sparkling graphite".

HTH.

Bad punctuation on my part -- £160 for tints, cant remember how much for wheels.

ok cheers mate, if you come across it if you could let me know as i would be interested in how much they took from you to do it.

cheers

Pics of my car are on my Flickr website: http://www.flickr.com/photos/oobster

You MAY find that if it's West End Skoda you've ordered your car from that they use Magma for window tinting as West End Skoda and Magma are only a couple of miles apart.

The tint on my windows are 'dark smoke' - i.e. not limo-tint black. When are you expecting to get your car?

well the car is built just waiting to have it shipped over. hope soon, how long you reckon it should be? i have ordered from chatmhams also. any issues at all from dealer or with car?

does it come standard with mud flaps all round anyone?

thanks again

Mudflaps don't come as standard, Chathams fitted my front ones free of charge but refused to fit the back ones as they SAY they don't fit. Chathams gave me the rear ones (brand new) and I fitted them myself which took around an hour (need to jack the car up and take the rear wheels off) and although they aren't a 100% perfect fit, they do fit reasonably well.

I am the 2nd owner of my car so don't know the times it takes for the car to come over from Europe, and no real issues with the car since I got it (only had it 7 weeks!) or the dealer.

thanks for that.

did you ask chathams for a quote on tints etc? or did you just go straight to west end garage?

thanks again

Neither mate, I just went straight to Magma and dealt with them directly.

Your more than welcome to come round and see the car anytime, it's a petrol (DSG gearbox though) and see the quality of the tints etc. Send me a PM though, don't want to put my location up on the forum.

thanks mate

The tinting and powder coating is now all in house, £160 inc vat for windows, £350 inc vat for wheels, wheels require a 5 day turn around but courtesy cars are available
