powder coat alloys

Featured Replies

I have had my Zenith's powder coated in Black Chrome at TWS.

It's the second time I have had that colour on my cars - one of my favourites!

Gives you a mix of black and silver!

have to say really like the wheels. i defo want to get mine powder coated when it arrives. is black chrome the same as anthracite?

thanks again

Hi there,

No it's a lot different to Anthracite.

It's black looking side on at the wheels, but silver face on as its a pearlescent finish with a high gloss coating.

Cheers

ok just an update,

had 2 quotes from 2 different dealers.

1st was from where i ordered car and they are looking at for wheels £50 each plus VAT and the window tints would be about £300 plus VAT

seems ok for wheels but tints a bit high i reckon

2nd from a dealer in uphall which quoted 160 for tints and 350 for wheels incl VAT.

so 2 very different quotes.

the wheels sound good from the 1st quote and tints from the second i think that is what i will have to do, unless anyone knows of a better deal?

cheers

just a quick question.

do you need to tell your insurance company about getting your windows tinted and wheels powder coated?

i have never really changed a car from its base spec before but feel it is need for this car so just unsure of how it works with insurance.

cheers

I wouldn't bother telling your insurance about the wheel colour change, but DEFINITELY tell them about the window tinting - they MAY increase your premium, if they do it shouldn't be by much. Make sure you tell them it's only the rear + back window thats been tinted though.

As for your previous post, why don't you just approach companies who do this work yourself, rather than getting the dealer to do it? All the dealer is going to do is get another company to do it anyway, then probably put their mark-up on top!

There is the company in Uphall Station (Magma) that does window tinting (done mine - excellent job) and there is also a company about 2 minutes walk from Magma (called RM Coatings) who do powder coating. I've never used them so can't comment on the quality of their work, but they quoted me £285 to do my wheels on a same-day service.

I am getting the 18" wheels on my Octavia painted next week at a bodyshop in Bathgate (Stevie Walkers) - he is charging £50 a wheel, this is doing both sides. On top of that is whatever their local tyre fitting company charge them to remove then refit the tyres then re-balance (maybe another £60 in total?). So approx. £260 in total, and I can pick the EXACT shade I want which I don't think you can do with powder coating.

let me know how you get on with this place then in bathgate as it is just up the road from me.

is powder coating not better to get then painted?

with the tints can you not get the fron windows done slightly or is only the rears you are allowed to get?

thanks again oobster
