If it's a petrol, then yes.

Didn't some TSIs creep into some late pre-FLs?

Yes they were fitted to the Limited Edition VRS

You learn something every day! I didn't know that, did they use that as a selling point for the LE?

They don't use it as selling point now, they still call them the TFSI in the brochure for the vRS, so I'd be surprised if it was used as a selling point on the LE.

I have an 09 plate vRS estate that isnt a LE and mine is the TSI lump. Has the facelift dash etc and did have the big mirrors (removed as not a fan) but has the pre facelift front end.

So what is the bhp of the 2.0 TSI? As the standard one is 200bhp in 2.0 petrol isn't it?

Both units are rated at 200PS, 197bhp.

But with a remap, gains are generally slightly higher with the TSI.

Had a read up and TSI doesnt suffer from the cam follower problems and also the fueling setup was improved. Its basically an improved TFSI engine not that the TFSI is poor.

According to the Shark Performance site, in the Skoda Octavia the TFSI is 200PS (197bhp) and the TSI is 211PS.

Yea ive heard 2 different bhp's for the TSI aswell which is a little wierd

I believe only the Golf GTi gets the 211 PS engine.

I'm only going to add at this point what I've heard as a "rumour".

The engine in the Golf and Octavia is basically the same.

However the Octavia engine was purposely "de-tuned".

This is how the same engine can be listed as 197bhp in the Octavia and 211bhp in the Golf.

Remember VAG see VW as a much more premium line than Skoda - hence trying to convince the buying public the Golf is the more powerful vehicle.

The rumour goes along the lines of:

It took time and manpower to "de-tune" the Octavia engines, it also meant that as each engine was completed it was assigned to either VW or Skoda.

By having a production line producing the same part over and over without any modification you make the line more efficient and cheaper to run.

Hence all of the TSI engines leave the production line tuned to the higher specification 211bhp (as seen in the Golf).

However VAG won't tell you this, and Skoda still advertise the vehicle as 200bhp (197bhp) as this is the engine which is supposed to be fitted.

This rumour rose from a couple of forums (I will try and find the posts) where people went to have their vehicles remapped.

They ran their stock cars on the rollers first to get a "before" and after picture and the stock vehciles were getting 211bhp.

As I said, this is all rumour etc.

Stoofa's post makes sense. Why build & then detune? Costly.

Also might explain why Shark list the TSI at 211PS. I'd be surprised if they haven''t arranged before & after dynos.

Lastly, my TSI feels just as lively in sport or paddle mode as my previous Golf V TFSI whilst presumably being a slightly heavier car!

Not costly to de-tune at all. It just gets loaded with a different map on the ECU.

Output is listed at 200PS on the usual car stats sites, plus Skoda UK.

The only thing would be to run a standard TSI on a reliable rolling road, to see what it's actually putting out. Especially if a std Mk6 GTi were available at the same time as well :)

Just had a look on the JKM website at their Octavia TSI and standard it ran 204.3 on the rollers which makes this discussion as clear as mud lol as basically in the middle of the 2 figures. Is a good 197bhp or a poor 211bhp. Also to add is what was the air temp and fuel etc etc!

~5% difference could just be down to the ambient temperature of the day!

Colour me sceptical.

lol yea agree. Mine will have a BSH induction kit fitted before it has chance to go on the rollers so i wont be much help although they did test on standard mk6 GTI and got 9 bhp on standard so if mine hits 220bhp (i wish) prior to a remap etc then happy days.
