Walk Through Of Common Requests

Featured Replies

Is there any merit in putting together a walk through or step by step guide for people who have VCDS and can offer help for people with general or common requests?

I'm thinking things like:

Airbag Light

Service Light

Unlock All Doors

Activate/deactivate Alarm Chirps

Activate Columbus Secret Menu

Etc. Etc.

Basic things that wont create a problem and dont need further investigation due to safety reasons.

I'm happy to do the leg work if people would contribute B)

Any comments or suggestions?

Personally, I’m just about to purchase VCDS and a walk through of the common procedures would be fantastic. It would also tidy up the VCDS section if it was placed as a sticky, as it would negate the need for individual threads requesting the procedures. It would be a big  from me to anyone who produced a guide!

Same here!

OK well i'm happy to start producing a guide.

What I really need is some input/content from all the experts

Please PM me with any contributions and I will start putting something together. It's only fair that each contributor gets a mention in the guide. Please let me know if you would rather not be ackowledged B)

Just to be clear....there is a helpful list already as a Sticky but what i'm thinking of is something more comprehensive and will "hold the hand" of someone new to VCDS, literally a step by step guide :)

I'd certainly be interested as i'm also about to buy VCDS. Would be much appreciated.

Maybe a small guide on the common Live data logging functions would be appreciated as well

I have limited experience and knowledge of using VCDS but i'm happy to collate and publish the data.

I will update the list as and when I recieve the info/content

Great idea. Could you add activating/de-activating touring mode for xenon lights

I would be interested too - still a novice and nearly had it a year now! :giggle:

Just bumping this up the list as nothing has been added so far.

There is a Word doc knocking about on here somewhere, that detailed certain functions.

There's also the issue that settings are in different places dependant on platform, and also between the Octy2 pre-FL and FL modules, due to controller changes and alterations to the way CANBUS functioned and dealt with commands and operations.

Happy to list out the procedure for the actions listed above though Mark :)

This is what I meant, the Word docs attached to the 1st post:

There's probably still merit in improving on that and adding some further explanation though.

I've already begun collating all the info I've collected for jobs done so far.

I'll tidy it up and ping it across soon.

Mike Holroyd has a folder full of common procedures and screenshots already - might be worth a PM to him?

That is a great help.

Thanks guys

How about turning down the EGR duty cycle? This can be done on certain diesel engines and basically stops the EGR opening as wide and draws in less exhaust gas and more fresh air. Done it no problems on mine.

Remote windows roll up/down? Can be done through VCDS on newer cars rather than VDS pro needed for older stuff (2004 or older).

Phil

Anything with CANBUS can generally handle the windows up/down via remote Phil.
